An Error Occurred Installing The Tap Device Driver Windows 8.1
Defect (worksforme) Error occured installing tap device driver Reported by: FrancoisC Owned by: samuli Priority: major Milestone: release 2.3.6 Component: tap-windows Version: 2.3-beta / 2.3-RC Severity: Not set (if unsure, select this one) Keywords: tap window error Cc: Description Hi, I've been digging into some similar reports and blogs, but none of them have solved my problem. While installing OpenVPN 2.3.3 64 bit version on a Windows 7 laptop, I get this (seemed to be famous) error message: "An error occured installing tap device driver" I've looked at bu report #266, and tried a few things: replace devcon.exe with the 64 bit version from http://www.ryanvictory.com/posts/automating-6to4-adapter-removal-in-windows/ uninstall the all thing and reinstall a 32 bit version uninstall and install an older version 2.3.2 install the standalone tap-windows-9.9.2_3 All gave me the exact same error. Also, calling the addtap.bat script in admin mode give me the following error: C:\Windows\system32>rem Add a new TAP virtual ethernet adapter C:\Windows\system32>"C:\Program Files\TAP-Windows\bin\devcon.exe" install "C:\Pr ogram Files\TAP-Windows\driver\OemWin2k.inf" tap0901 Device node created. Install is complete when drivers are installed... Updating drivers for tap0901 from C:\Program Files\TAP-Windows\driver\OemWin2k.i nf. devcon.exe failed. C:\Windows\system32>pause I've seen on report #266 there might be an issue with VMWare being installed. It is my case. But it's not clear from this report this is really an issue or if there is a workaround. Anyone has a clear, comprehensive, working solution or workaround ? I003 solves the problem. We will update our package in https://kb.cyberoam.com/default.asp?id=2999 the nearest future. In the meantime, those who run Windows and need a new OpenVPN installation can download OpenVPN 2.3.2 with installer I003 on the official OpenVPN community site: https://openvpn.net/index.php/open-source/downloads.html Other OS users can ignore an error this message. It might be a Windows 8 problem, which has been reported rarely (while it is reported frequently on Windows 8.1 Preview). Please see here, it could solve your issue: https://airvpn.org/topic/9645-openvpn-tap-windows-81-adapter-problem/ Kind regards Back to top Report #3 seanconnery seanconnery Newbie New Members 3 posts Posted 01 September 2013 - 11:30 PM I had the same problem up to some minutes ago. For me it helped to get the newest version of the openvpn software, which is openvpn-install-2.3.2-I003-x86_64 this is very new ! (22 Aug I guess) From the site I downloaded my installer initially, I got the ... I002... version, which seems to have no valid signature for the drivers.
