The error message was: VssSyncStart operation failed: IDispatch error #8451 (0x80042303) First you can try to re-register the VSS components as described in this post: TSM VM Backup + error

during quiescing, error code 5, IDispatch error #8472 (0x80042318) If you find no other resolution, you can remove the VSS component from the windows guest operating system, provided as part vo the VMware Tools. In this case older sync drivers will be used - and you have a good chance that this will solve your problem. How to remove the VSS component: vsssyncstart operation failed idispatch error #8454 right-click the VM and select "Guest" - "Install/Upgrade VMware Tools" select "Interactive Tools Upgrade" log-on to the virtual machine and start the VMware Tools Setup (you can start it via Explorer - DVD Drive) select "Custom": deselect the "VSS Support" (Volume Shadow Copy Service Support) now finish the wizzard - done! If possible reboot the virtual machine. I the guest os am working with a VMware virtual machine Windows 2008 R2 server where MS SQL 2008 R2 server is installed. SnapManaer for MS SQL 5.2 with SnapDrive 6.3.1R1. When attempting to move the system databases (model, master, msdb) to another Windows volume (which is a VMDK - I have also tried a RDM VMDK with the same results) it fails the following error message occurs:SQL-DMO API Error]: Source: Microsoft SQL-DMO (ODBC SQLState: 42000)Error Message: IDispatch error #21490Description: RegCreateKeyEx() returned error 5, 'Access is denied.'NetApp KB article ID 2016403 suggests a couple tasks to resolve but the issue persists.The service accounts used by MS SQL 2008 R2 and SnapManager and local administrators of the Windows OS.Have other folks encountered this issue? In the install, I told it to use windows authentication. I didn't put a password to the user (it was grayed out), but I do have a password in my startup of the laptop. I use a Development App that uses an ODBC connection to access the SQL Server's DBs. When I set up the ODBC DSN, it didn't need a username or password. I tested it and it stated "Successful". In my development app, I try to connect to the ODBC and it will not connect giving a "IDispatch error #3149" error. No matter if I use my windows login/password or anything else...it will not connect and it gives the error. What do I do? For your question "connecting with Windows authentification" it is simple : as soon as you use the keywords UId and Pwd, you are using the SQL Server authentification.If You don't use the Pwd and UId keywords and you use "Trusted_Connection=True;" , you are using the Windows Authentification ( that's to say the Windows Login used when your computer started.
