One way to reduce the size of a PDF is to use the File | Save As | Reduced Size PDF option in the full, non-free version of Adobe Acrobat. If you get an error: An error was encountered while processing images, then try using the preflight tool to reduce transparency. In the full version of Adobe Acrobat, select Edit | Preflight In the Preflight window, under PDF Fixups, select "Flatten Transparency". Select any resolution, selecting low is fine Click on "Analyze and fix" Close the preflight window. In the Acrobat window, select File | Save As | Reduced Size PDF Previoussection | Thissection | Nextsection Previousquestion | Thisquestion | Nextquestion Login Website Copyright ©

An error was encountered while flattening transpa Dougefresh091 Jun 18, 2010 1:22 PM I've looked around on the internet for a solution for this, but I'm finding no answers that help.I keep getting the following errors in Acrobat Pro 9.3 when trying to use the pdf optimizer. It's driving https://forums.adobe.com/thread/663257 me nuts. I'm trying to compress an Indesign CS5 generated pdf. It contains transparent objects, and all the images are .ai files. If I leave the transparency box unchecked I immediately get this error: An error was encountered while processing images. If I check Transparency, it shows the little loading bar, as usual, and then when that's done I get this:An error was encountered while flattening transparent objects.
The most annoying part of this, is that I've been using this same file for months now. Every so often the disclosures on it get updated, and I make the edits in Indesign, export, add form fields, and compress using pdf optimizer. Why all of a sudden is it grumpy? Is this a CS5 issue, because this form may not have been updated since I upgraded to CS5 from CS4?I've tried swapping out the .ai files with newly saved CS5 versions. I've tried flattening layers pre-export. I cannot remove transparency, so that's not an option. But, as a test I removedCloud forum Find an Adobe Certified Expert Acrobat User Community: Germany These forums are now Read Only. Andrea Fredericks 2 Answers Edit Answer (for another -30 minute) What version of Acrobat are you running?Searching for solutions didn't provide much help, my first suggestion would be to test out a completely different file or if need be create a new one with a couple of things in it and try reducing the file size and see what happens. an error was If you still get that error that run a repair of Acrobat and try again. If still no success update te software to the latest version to see if that corrects the problem. A last resort would be to reinstall Acrobat and see if that fixes the issue. Now, if the test file you use comes out error free, recreate the original file and see if it comes out clean. Michael Anderson Edit Answer (for another 14 minutes) I was getting "anerror occurred while processing images Acrobat" when trying to reduce file size of a pdf. This solution worked for me:if Acrobat gives"an error occurred while processing images Acrobat" then do this:You need to go into Advanced>Print Production>Flattener Previewand then apply the flattening first (you can compress the images right in thereas well).Once you do that youcan "Reduce File Size"... interesting that Adobe hasn't put thatmessage into the error handling for this. ;-) Pastedfrom
