Divide By Zero Error Encountered
26AprilHow Do I Resolve the Divide by Zero Issue in Crystal Reports?A client of mine emailed a report, designed in Crystal Reports XI, that when compiled excel divide by zero error hide produced a "Divide by Zero" error message. When looking at the report, the formula generating the error message was in the format:= {Tablename.Fieldname1}/{Tablename.Fieldname2}When creating formulas, that use a division operator, it is always advisable to consider the possibility that the demoninator field value may be zero:To get around this problem, the formula was modified to:=IF {Tablename.Fieldname2} = 0 THEN 0ELSE {Tablename.Fieldname1}/{Tablename.Fieldname2} 1 Comments 1Julie Jackson08JuneTHANK YOU!MAKE A COMMENTName *Email Address *Comment *

I understand what causes this error and how to resolve after I receive the error but I’m wondering it there is a better way. I may design my report in June of a year and at that time all the formulas have data in them so they don’t get this error. However if the report is ran in January of a new year, some formulas may have no data and the error is received. Looking for suggestions on how to program around this type of error.TIA Ben Marthin RE: Division by Zero error Ngolem (Programmer) 8 Feb 02 17:09 How do you handle it currently??standard way isnumbervar x;if not isnull({table.value}) thenx := {table.othervalue} / {table.value}elsex := 0;// or whatever you want the value to be RE: Division by Zero error dgillz (Instructor) 8 Feb 02 21:14 how about this:If isNull({field}) or if {field}=0 then 0 else <
divide te number zero. And since we all know that underlying data cannot be http://blog.marksgroup.net/2009/07/crystal-reports-eliminating-zero-divide.html trusted 100%, it is necessary to test for these zero divide errors within our Formula Field.Example: The formula field called {frmSalesPerDay} is a simple division of {NumSales} by {NumDays}.So our {frmSalesPerDay} code should look like this:if {NumSales} = 0 then 0 else {NumSales} / {NumDays}So, if {NumSales} equals by zero zero, then we simply return a zero and exit the formula. Otherwise, we let it perform the division. Posted by Justin Hill at 12:49 PM 4 comments: Tim Nagel said... What about a complex nested formula like:If isnull({PART_LOCATION.DESCRIPTION}) OR {PART_LOCATION.DESCRIPTION} = "0" OR isnull({PART.CASE_QTY}) OR {PART.CASE_QTY} = 0 by zero error then 0 elseIF {PART.PRODUCT_CODE} >= "01Cookie" AND {PART.PRODUCT_CODE} <= "12TwoPc"THEN {IBT_LINE.ORDER_QTY} / (IF {PART_LOCATION.LOCATION_ID} = "NonSpec"Then({PART_LOCATION.QTY} / If NumericText({PART_LOCATION.DESCRIPTION}) then ToNumber({PART_LOCATION.DESCRIPTION}) else.000001)Else {PART.CASE_QTY})ELSE {IBT_LINE.ORDER_QTY}Is there an easier way to do that one?
