It's an older program, and not completely compatible, but still quite functional. I tried to open it the other day, and got a "16 bit Windows Subsystem" error (the http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/topic/12565-integer-divide-by-0/ 'system 32\autoexec.nt. --not suitable for running MS-DOS" message). My first thought was to reinstall Print Artist--but it wouldn't work. So, I downloaded the 'XP repair,' and was able to open the Print Artist page. However---now, when I click on 'install,' I get an "Application Error" message: "Integer divide by 0" . Now I'm stumped. How do I repair THAT error? Thanks... 0 Advertisements #2 gerryf Posted 19 March 2005 - 01:21 PM gerryf Retired Staff Retired Staff 11,365 posts What do you mean "downloaded the 'XP repair'"? What did you download. Also, were you using SP1 before and SP2 now? 0 #3 dmstein Posted 21 March 2005 - 08:28 AM dmstein New Member Topic Starter Member 2 posts Oh, sorry--the 'XP repair' was a link to, well, a page with XP repairs for different issues! The link was posted, on this list, under a topic mentioning the first error message I got--the '16 bit Windows Subsystem' error ("system 32"). I try to read previous, pertinent messages before I ask for help. However, I have managed to get things up & running again. The bad news is, I don't know exactly how I did it--I just kept trying things until it worked. I did not do anything that would fix the 'integer divide by 0' error--but, it seems that
i am tryin to install a win 95 version of phantasmagoria 2 onto win xp....i http://www.pcreview.co.uk/threads/application-error-integer-divide-by-0.509489/ have used the compatibility wizard, but the message "Application Error:- Integer http://programmers.stackexchange.com/questions/119987/should-integer-divide-by-zero-halt-execution/119999 divide by 0" keeps coming up! what do i do? If this is by zero incorrect, post back and I'll repost that information. -- Cheers, Windows XP MVP Shell / User Jimmy S. http://mvp.support.microsoft.com Game FAQs: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=FH;[LN];gms Visit my Zone.com / Gaming Helpsite: http://nibblesnbits.tk or Call / Contact MS Support at: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=sz;en-us;top My advice is donated "AS IS" without warranty; nor do I confer any rights. _________________________________________________________ "Darkstarr73" <> wrote in division by zero message news:3a7f01c3b082$b93dd4a0$... | what the hell does that mean? i am tryin to install a win | 95 version of phantasmagoria 2 onto win xp....i have used | the compatibility wizard, but the message "Application | Error:- Integer divide by 0" keeps coming up! what do i | do? Jimmy S., Nov 22, 2003 #2 Advertisements Guest Guest As the error states, the error is with the application itself. What that error means is the program you are using has performed a mathematical calculation where something is being divided by zero, which is undefined in mathematics (i.e. there is no answer). Whenever a program performs a calculation with a divide by zero, a runtime error such as the one you encountered occurs. Though this doesn't solve your problem, you now know what the error means. >-----Original Message----- >what the hell does that mean? i am tryin to install a win >95 version of phantasmagoria 2 onto win xp....i have used >the compatibility wizard, but the

[closed] up vote 6 down vote favorite I know that modern languages handle integer divide by zero as an error just like the hardware does, but what if we could design a whole new language? Ignoring existing hardware, what should a programming language does when an integer divide by zero occurs? Should it return a NaN of type integer? Or should it mirror IEEE 754 float and return +/- Infinity? Or is the existing design choice correct, and an error should be thrown? Is there a language that handles integer divide by zero nicely? EDIT When I said ignore existing hardware, I mean don't assume integer is represented as 32 bits, it can be represented in anyway you can to imagine. exceptions exception-handling share edited Jan 30 '12 at 22:40 ChrisF♦ 36.2k9110160 asked Jan 5 '09 at 18:53 Pyrolistical 17115 migration rejected from stackoverflow.com Oct 9 '13 at 20:49 This question came from our site for professional and enthusiast programmers.
