I know there has been some question about this, but my case is quite weird. I created a simple typing game that is running OK on my computer, but when I tried to deploy it online to facebook, I got those errors. I http://stackoverflow.com/questions/5922860/flex-error-1009-cannot-access-a-property-or-method-of-a-null-object-reference used code from the tutorial from adobe here http://www.adobe.com/devnet/facebook/articles/flex_fbgraph_pt4.html to deploy my flex game to facebook This is the error message: TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. at FacebookUserStatusWeb/init() at FacebookUserStatusWeb/___FacebookUserStatusWeb_Application1_creationComplete() at flash.events::EventDispatcher/dispatchEventFunction() at flash.events::EventDispatcher/dispatchEvent() at mx.core::UIComponent/dispatchEvent() at mx.core::UIComponent/set initialized() at mx.managers::LayoutManager/doPhasedInstantiation() at mx.managers::LayoutManager/doPhasedInstantiationCallback() And here is snippet of the init() function: protected var text1:String="Text to be typed"; //hard-coded temporarily protected const TIMER_INTERVAL:int = 10; protected var t:Timer = new Timer(TIMER_INTERVAL); protected var topURL:String=ExternalInterface.call('top.location.toString'); protected function init():void { t.addEventListener(TimerEvent.TIMER, updateTimer); ProblemText.text = new String(text1); Facebook.init("

With one particular widget, I am geitting a WidgetManager.mxml error. I get this error message:TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. at com.esri.viewer.managers::WidgetManager/createWidget()[LOCAL_PATH\Flex_Workspace\FlexViewer_3\FlexViewer_COPY\s rc\com\esri\viewer\managers\WidgetManager.mxml:407] at com.esri.viewer.managers::WidgetManager/runWidget()[LOCAL_PATH\Flex_Workspace\FlexViewer_3\FlexViewer_COPY\src\ com\esri\viewer\managers\WidgetManager.mxml:457] at com.esri.viewer.managers::WidgetManager/widgetReadyHandler()[LOCAL_PATH\Flex_Workspace\FlexViewer_3\FlexViewer_ COPY\src\com\esri\viewer\managers\WidgetManager.mxml:525] at flash.events::EventDispatcher/dispatchEventFunction() at flash.events::EventDispatcher/dispatchEvent() cannot access a at ModuleInfoProxy/moduleEventHandler() at flash.events::EventDispatcher/dispatchEventFunction() at flash.events::EventDispatcher/dispatchEvent() at ModuleInfo/readyHandler() at flash.events::EventDispatcher/dispatchEventFunction() at flash.events::EventDispatcher/dispatchEvent() at mx.core::FlexModuleFactory/update() at mx.core::FlexModuleFactory/docFrameHandler() at mx.core::FlexModuleFactory/docFrameListener()Any ideas? This widget will compile properly on another users computer and in fact that user provide a functioning swf file for me using the exact same code. I've loaded a fresh flex viewer project, updated software, made sure the flex sdk is the same as the other user's. I'm not sure what else to do.Thanks!albertda Nov 14, 2012 11:43 AMCorrect AnswerThanks for the suggestions. And Rhett, I did modify the file paths. It turns out the widget was originally built in Flash Builder application version 4.6 and I was trying to compile with 4.0.0. Once I installed 4.6 the widget works properly. Seems odd to me but it works for now :)See the reply in contextNo one else had this questionMark as assumed answeredOutcomesVisibility: ArcGIS Viewer for Flex2391 ViewsLast modified on Nov 14, 2012 4:30 AMTags:applicationsContent tagged with applicationsflexContent ta

Creation policy (click here to view Adobe's documentation) Containers have a creationPolicy property that specifies when its children are created. By default, containers have a creation policy of ContainerCreationPolicy.AUTO, which means that the container delays creating descendants until they are needed, a process which is known as deferred instantiation. (A container's default creation policy is derived from its parent's instantiation policy, and the Application container has a default policy of ContainerCreationPolicy.AUTO.)An auto creation policy produces the best startup time because fewer components are created initially. For navigator containers such as the ViewStack, TabNavigator, and Accordion, an ContainerCreationPolicy.AUTO creation policy means that the container creates its direct children immediately, but waits to create the descendants of each child until the child needs to be displayed. As a result, only the initially required child or children of a container get processed past the preinitialization stage.A creation policy of ContainerCreationPolicy.ALL requires all of a container's children to be fully created and initialized before the container is initialized.
