Both machines could access each window cannot access network windows 7 other's shared folders (shared using "advanced sharing", that is) until my internet service provider upgraded their modem over the week-end. Now w8 can access w7's shared folders, but w7 cannot access w8's shared folders. When typing the \w8 in windows explorer I get a message that says Windows cannot access \\w8 and, in the details: Error code: 0x80004005 Unspecified error If I try the same thing in the start menu I get a different details section: Error code: 0x800070035 The network path was not found. If I enter \\[w8's ip address] either in windows explorer or in the start menu I get the same results as above. I made sure that Client for Microsoft Networks was installed and checked on W7 and w8 for the Local Area Connection, as well as the connection to the Internet Service Provider. There are no 3rd party firewalls on w7 & w8. Suddenly, few days ago my computer failed to connect to any shared network folder and greeted me with the error "Windows cannot access \\machine\sharedfolder, error code 0x80004005" every-time I tried accessing a network resource as shown below. Strangely, the computer was discovering other computers on the network and I was able to ping and SSH into them like my Raspberry Pi Network Attached Storage (NAS). After, trying everything from messing with firewall settings, completely uninstalling Kaspersky Internet Security 2014, enabling all sorts of networking services and changing security policies nothing worked. After 5 days of reading numerous articles on the internet I finally managed to nail this and solve this problem as shared below. This problem occurs when Windows core networking component Multiple Provider Router (Mpr.dll) is not able to load any network providers from the registry setting located at - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\NetworkProvider\Order, the problem can be caused by misbehaving applications corrupting this particular registry entry. As you can see from the image posted below the 'Order' setting has two blank entries in the beginning causing the problem. To solve this issue, all you need to do is to make this entry correct. Start by launching the Registry Editor (regedit.exe) and n

Or is it restricted to just certain users? If the latter, does the username and password on both the PC and HTPC match? Look in Control Panel -> User Accounts -> Credential Manager. For some reason, sometimes credentials don't "stick" in there like they're supposed to when you just access a network share directly and check the "remember" box.Has either system been rebooted recently? Unless there's a domain controller, Windows network names (Jonathan-htpc in your pic) are shared via a dynamically elected controller. Rebooting can cause the network to lose its elected controller, and it can take a while for the computers on your network to pick a new controller. Try using the IP address instead of the network name. e.g. \\192.168.1.102\htpc jonathan1683Nov 2, 2015, 2:27 PM Hello Thank you for your reply. I dont know how to check if they are on the same workgroup or domain. I just used sharing right the right click folder menu they are both connected via ethernet to the router. It never prompts for a password as they are both the password and username are the same. One thing I did noticed when trying to use the IP was that the computer is using IPv6, could that be the issue? I never seen windows using ipv6 ips before windows 10. Can I switch it back to ipv5? maybe that is the issue with the older windows 7 htpc Can't find your answer ? Ask !
