Windows Cannot Access Network Share You Do Not Have Permission
error code 0x80004005 up vote 6 down vote favorite 2 I have two windows machine on a home wired network, one running windows 7 (I will call it w7 from now on) and one running windows 8.1 (I will call it w8 from now on). Both machines could access each other's shared folders (shared using "advanced sharing", that is) until my internet service provider upgraded their modem over the week-end. Now w8 can access window cannot access network error w7's shared folders, but w7 cannot access w8's shared folders. When typing the \w8 in windows explorer I get a message that says Windows cannot access \\w8 and, in the details: Error code: 0x80004005 Unspecified error If I try the same thing in the start menu I get a different details section: Error code: 0x800070035 The network path was not found. If I enter \\[w8's ip address] either in windows explorer or in the start menu I get the same results as above. I made sure that Client for Microsoft Networks was installed and checked on W7 and w8 for the Local Area Connection, as well as the connection to the Internet Service Provider. There are no 3rd party firewalls on w7 & w8. I made sure all these services were running on both w7 and w8 Computer Browser DHCP Client DNS Client Function Discovery Resource Publication Server SSDP Discovery TCP/IP Netbios helper UPnP Device Host Workstation UPnP Device Host was not running on w7, but starting it made no difference. Computer Browser & UPnP Device Host were not running on w8, but starting them made no difference. I tried to map a network drive on w8 from w7 (using both ip address and name), choosing "connect using different credentials" as per a response on technet still yielded Error

I was having a similar problem on a new laptop (Toshiba) with Windows 7 Home Premium using wifi. Accessing a share on an XP desktop "suddenly" stopped working. It appears the issue is related to the Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter, which was evidently installed with a driver update around the first week of April. Even though the adapter is disabled, it appears that any changes that you make to the settings on your "normal" wireless adapter also need made on this one. For me, this included enabling NetBIOS over TCP/IP (under IPv4 settings) and ensuring IPv6 was disabled. Again, THE INTERFACE IS DISABLED, but these changes still "magically" made my sharing work

few minutes. Join Now I have no idea what happened. I went away for two weeks and now my Win 10 desktop won't open network places previously saved, network drive maps already created and I can't see more than a few machines on the whole network from the file explorer. I tried FQDN addresses, IP4 addresses, nothing works. All the servers ping OK and I can remote to them, but I can't even see the shares from windows let alone access any. Does anyone have the faintest idea what went wrong while I was away? FWIW, I'm using the only W10 in the building, as a preparation for rolling out, sometime, never. Every other user is W7 or OSX and has no issues. If DHCP have you tried to release and renew your DHCP lease and also flush the DNS? Are you using the internal server as your primary DNS? Sorry have to ask....Have you tried rebooting it? Are you connecting via wireless, or wired connection as it could be the connection is not connecting fast enough for it to establish the network connections? 1 Thai Pepper OP Adam Gadoury Sep 3, 2015 at 3:20 UTC Also do you have any pending updates? I seem to see very strange glitches etc when there is a pending restart required for an update. 1 Cayenne OP Mathieu Cohen Sep 3, 2015 at 3:38 UTC Go in Change advanced sharing settings and make sure you have the right settings in there. Maybe an update messed it up. 1 Jalapeno OP clivebagley Sep 3, 2015 at 3:40 UTC Thanks Adam, but there's no pending updates, static wired IP properly configured etc etc. Internet access is OK as is everything bar file shares (and network discovery in the file browser) Oddest thing is that a W10 VM running on the same workstation has no problem reading everything as expected. 0 Jalapeno OP clivebagley Sep 3, 2015 at 3:41 UTC Mattheiu - Already been there, and I also disabled windows firewall and there's no AV in the way either. 0 Cayenne OP Mathieu Cohen Sep 3, 2015 at 3:43 UTC "Did you turn it off and on again?"
