Cognos Error Cam-aaa-0071
trying to launch Controller client Technote (troubleshooting) Problem(Abstract) User launches Controller. User receives error message. Symptom Older versions of Controller: Log On Controller Cognos 8 CAM-AAA-0071 An internal error occurred OK Controller 8.5.x: Log On Controller IBM Cognos 8 CAM-AAA-0071 An Internal error occurred. [OK] Cause There are many potential root causes for the "CAM-AAA-0071 An internal error occurred" error: Scenario #1 - (Most Likely) - The Windows service 'Cognos 8' has run out of memory Scenario #2 - The relevant Directory Service is not running For more details, see separate IBM Technote #1340122 More details on Scenario #1 This technote shall mostly deal with (the most likely) scenario #1 where the Cognos 8 BI reporting engine (typically running on the Controller application server) has run out of system resources (memory etc.). If using Controller 8.3.x (and often 8.2.x), then the cause of this is almost certainly a code production problem (bug) in the Controller application server's report service ('Cognos 8') which causes a memory leak. Over time, the application server loses too much memory, and cannot continue. If using Controller 8.4.x or 8.5.x, then the cause is still probably a code production problem, but this time a different one which is fixed in Controller 8.5.1567. Resolving the problem Scenario #1 Fix: Upgrade to the latest version of Controller (minimum 8.5.1567 or later) to take advantage of code production (bug) memory-leak fixes. Workaround: for a short-term fix only Obtain a short period of downtime, and reboot the server. Symptom The following is one possible set of error messages that may arise. ERROR on screen: CAM-AAA-0071 An internal error occurred. ERROR http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21365078 from cogserver.log: CAM-AAA-0071 An internal error occurred. CM-SYS-5010 An internal error occurred in the Content Manager cache. CM-SYS-5027 A Content Manager internal error occurred while querying the content store cache. CM-ADM-4012 During consistency check, an error occurred while validating the search path (CAMID("default:u:authid=xxxxxxxxxx")) in external namespace. Cause The server http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21445831 on which Content Manager resides does not have enough memory or memory has been fragmented. On a Microsoft Windows operating system, this problem can be caused by memory fragmentation in the JVM. Resolving the problem The recommendation is to change Operating System settings to minimize memory fragmentation. The following registry setting needs to be increased in order to minimize memory fragmentation and improve performance. HeapDecommitFreeBlockThreshold = REG_DWORD 0x00040000 Refer to the Microsoft knowledge base document link below for more on this topic and consult with your System Administrator before proceeding.
