Error Code(s) Definitions/Causes Solutions 200 The fax session completed without errors. No action required 221 The user pressed the Stop key, causing the fax session to be prematurely terminated. Contact the remote caller and have the fax sent again. 222 The local machine answered a call, but is unable to detect the presence of a calling fax machine. Typically this is because the local fax machine answered a voice call. Confirm that the remote caller is a fax machine and not a voice call. The remote user canceled the fax transmission by pressing the Stop key immediately prior to, or just as the local machine answered the call. If the remote machine ends the call just as the local machine starts reception, reduce the ring count on the local machine answering setting. As an alternative, suggest that the sender manually fax the document. The receiving fax machine is an older silent fax machine. Try turning on Silent Detect in the Fax settings. Confirm that the sender is not inadvertently attempting to poll the local machine for a document, instead of sending to the local machine. The remote machine

Just try again in a few minutes. 242 Code - This code means that your machine is confused. The other machine may be trying to receive a fax instead of sending one, or it may already be in the process of receiving another fax. The only way to handle this is by waiting for a few minutes and trying again. 227 Code - If your HP fax machine displays this code while trying to receive a fax, it means that the incoming fax is not supported by the machine.
