it used to work just fine under Tiger. Now I keep getting communication errors. The printer dialog finds the printer epson 1400 printer driver and says, "Printer is now on-line," but then there is a moment of pause and then the message "Communication Error" pops up under "Printer is now on-line."My Epson R340, also connected to my http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/supDetail.jsp?oid=79609&infoType=FAQs Airport works just fine (although I did have to re-install it after upgrading to Leopard...thanks Steve).I have downloaded the latest drivers from the Epson site. I deleted the printer from the print list and added it again. It didn't work. Any ideas. To do this: delete any Epson printers via the o System Prefs - Print & Fax, restart, update Leopard, restart, then go to System Prefs - Print & Fax, add a printer (make sure the printer is turned on!), and it should find the printer (via Bonjour) and the driver. Of course, you could simply update the software and try printing but in my case, the above worked. ink printers Moderators: gcrogers, Kevgermany, Costas L Post a reply 11 posts • Page 1 of 1 R1800 communications error by Roland » Wed Mar 12, 2008 10:48 am After two and a half years of faultless service, my R1800 recently developed a serious problem which took some time to resolve. I am posting this because there is very little information about this on the web, including Epson's sites, and it may be of help to anyone with similar problems. The fault manifests itself through repeated communications errors which can occur at any time, whether the printer is printing or not. The green indicator lamp flickers rapidly for a few seconds, following which the printer goes through some sort of resetting process lasting about a minute, after which the green lamp goes steady and the printer is ready to print again. Thankfully, it does not appear to use any ink during this process. I experienced numerous aborted prints and the frustration of the printer whirring away occasionally, even when not in use. If the problem arose during a print run, the 'communication error' dialogue would appear on-screen and it was not possible to resume the print. I worked my way through all the obvious things: changed the USB cable, used a different USB port on the PC, completely uninstalled the drivers and downloaded and reinstalled the latest version (reports as 6.52), but the problem persisted. I should add that when the problem started, no new equipment or software had been recently added to the PC. The resolution, in my case, has been to switch to the firewire connection. This works fine with no obvious change in performance; the only downside is that the SSC monitoring utility does not appear to work with the f/w connection. So far, touching wood etc, this seems to have solved the problem which I can only assume is something to do with the printer's end of the USB connection, and as I said, I am posting this in case it is of help to anyone else.
