error has occurredI thought that I had done all the correct steps to solve the problem, but it still wouldn't work. Then, I error code 306 found two different posts which said similar things (one which was really close by Pahu, thank you!) that led me to the correct result. So, I wanted to lay it out in explicit detail here, in the hopes canon networking software that others could solve their problem quickly & easily. The prerequisite for the steps below is that _your Canon is powered up, configured, & WiFi connected to your LAN_. Here's what I did *that worked*:• Delete any previously installed (i.e., non-working) printers for the Canon• Download the basic Mac installation software for your Canon model at this link, *making sure that you're installing the Canon Networking software* (it may be a separate link, or it could

be bundled into their basic install - YMMV):http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=SupportIndexAct• Download the latest printer driver for your model, same link as above. Yes, you will need to download at least these two items, since the drivers in the original installation will not be the latest & greatest.• Install the basic installation/networking software first, then update the drivers• Go to System Preferences:Print & Fax• Click '+' to add a new printer, select Default in the top, left corner of the Add Printer window, then wait for 15-30 seconds• You'll see another Canon printer appear on the list, with a string of numbers after its name. *This is the one you want*, NOT the one which is already there when you first click Default. After you select that printer (do a Test Page to verify it works), you can go back and edit it, trimming the name down by cutting off the string of numbers; doing so will not affect the printer's operation. That's it! The real trick was in selecting the networking version of the printer which is "discovered" by the network when you pull up the Default tab. Whenever I tried to use the standard version of the printer, even though I could do things like clean the heads and actually receive a printout from doing so, I could never send anything to the printer successfully. Didn't want to install crap software from Canon on my Mac for my new PIXMA MP620 printer, and downloaded the drivers for the printer and scanner directly from Canon http://ask.metafilter.com/111839/Stupid-printer-stupid-me website. Clever right? Except no. The printer worked fine, but when I tried to scan, the scanner wasn't recognized by Mac. And when I tried to go back to printing, I couldn't figure out how! There's a scan https://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/3508958 option on the printer menu, and a copy option, but no print option. Now I feel like a moron. So now I've got a brand new printer copier scanner that doesn't scan or print. posted by mrstrotsky to Computers communication error & Internet (16 answers total) Have you tried just sending a print job to the printer anyway? If its similar, the best option for scanning was to launch the Image Capture application. It immediately saw the scanner and let us choose settings and scan. On the printer side of things: I do know it was "simple but not obvious" to get the printer to work. The printer list showed the right printer, but it just. wouldn't. work. I got the new driver from Canon's site, deleted the old printer from the printer list, and then added it back using the new driver. Presto! It worked. I don't have a step-by-step version

I searched several key strings and didn't find what I was looking for. I'm having a very frustrating problem with a new Pixma Pro 100 printer and I'm not sure what else to try. Every time I try and print, I get an error 306 - communications error - and the printer stops responding. Sometimes this is in the middle of a job, wasting expensive paper and ink. I've searched the web and tried many solutions, including: Reinstalling the driverRepairing PermissionsGiving the printer a dedicated IPResetting the printerRestarting the printerRestarting the computer I've tried most of these more than once. I'm not in a position to connect the printer via ethernet to the Airport, and connecting via USB everytime I want to print something would be a pain. (One of the major selling points was WiFi printing) Has anyone else experienced this, and can you think of anything else I should try ?
