HP Printer & All-in-One Products - Communication Error Messages Are Displayed on the PC and Printout Looks Garbled or Shows Unexpected Symbols Issue Defective communication between your computer and your HP printer or All-in-One product can result in manifold symptoms, being the most common of them: Printout looks garbled or shows unexpected symbols (e.g. smilies, hearts or squares). Pages are picked up and ejected blank. There is no response from the printer when a print job is sent. Communication error messages are displayed on the PC screen, for example: Bidirectional communication cannot be established Printer out of paper Error writing to LPT1/USB00X due to an unknown system error (being "X" any digit between 1

Message Causes Solutions 2XXX14 The machine was not able to print the received fax, or the machine's memory reached capacity while receiving a fax because the document was too large. The paper tray was empty. Load paper in the paper tray. See Loading Paper. The tray set for [Tray Use: Fax] under [Fax Settings] did not contain A4, Letter, or Legal size paper. Load valid size paper in the tray, and configure [Paper Size] under [Machine Settings] accordingly. A cover or tray was open. Close the cover or tray. There was a paper jam. Remove the jammed paper. See Removing Printing Jams. A print cartridge was empty. Replace the print cartridge. See Replacing Print Cartridges. The received fax was too large. Ask the sender to re-send the document in parts as several smaller individual faxes, or to send at a lower resolution. ADF JAM Open ADF Cover and Clear Jam An original has been jammed inside the ADF. Remove jammed originals, and then place them again. See Removing Scanning Jams. Check the originals are suitable for scanning. See Placing Originals. BP Tray Print Job SizeMismatch?Y/N The paper size set for the document differs from the size of the paper in the tray. Press the [B&W Start] key or [Color Start] key to begin printing, or press the [Clear/Stop] key to cancel the job.
