end of the (very long) phone call, it was suggested to me that the only way to import data from QBPro2008 to QBPro2015 can't open quickbooks was to have intuit tech department manipulate my data (which they will do for free within 48 hours). It took a long time (almost 4 minutes) but was successful.So the backup company file didn't ever work, but the portable file did, when both applications were opened at the same time.
