Update and How to Fix It written by: Donna Buenaventura•edited by: Bill Fulks•updated: 1/31/2011Why will Avira AntiVir not update the virus definitions file? Here's what to do if you have Avira AntiVir problems when updating VDF and iVDF. slide 1 of 5 Updating Avira AntiVir Personal AntiVir Personal is the free antivirus software from Avira. The company provides free virus definition updates (VDF and iVDF) in addition to providing on-access virus protection and on-demand virus scanner. There are some people that continue to experience Avira AntiVir problems. Note that Avira already switched to using https://answers.avira.com/en/question/i-have-2-problems-with-update122712-upd-error-cprogram-files-x86aviraantivir-desktoplocal001vdf-could-not-be-copied-to-cprogramdataaviraantivir-desktoptempupdatevalidationlocal001vdf-error-23-122714-upd-error-validati a new update system which means updating the free edition of AntiVir should no longer have issues e.g. overloaded servers. However, if you continue to experience problems in updating the free Antivir program, below are some solutions including the cause of why Avira Antivir will not update the VDF or iVDF. slide 2 of 5 OpenDNS and AntiVir Avira Servers One of the causes http://www.brighthub.com/computing/smb-security/articles/105221.aspx why Avira Antivir will not update is when an Internet connection is using the DNS servers by OpenDNS. The solution to this problem is to add only OpenDNS servers using the Internet Options in Windows instead of the router. Another solution is to add Avira AntiVir update servers in the hosts file of Windows: 62.146.66.187 personal.avira-update.com personal.avira-cdn.com 80.190.143.232 personal.avira-update.net 80.190.143.229 perspeak.avira-update.com 62.146.66.181 dl1.avgate.net 62.146.66.182 dl2.avgate.net 62.146.66.183 dl3.avgate.net 62.146.66.184 dl4.avgate.net 80.190.143.235 dl5.avgate.net 80.190.143.236 dl6.avgate.net 62.146.66.178 dl7.avgate.net 62.146.66.179 dl8.avgate.net 80.190.143.239 dl9.avgate.net 80.190.143.230 dl10.avgate.net Read about using Hosts file in Windows before applying to your computer. slide 3 of 5 Validation of Engine Failed with Error 258 Another one of the common Avira Antivir problems is when you go to update the program or virus definitions file and it tells you an error occurred. If you see an error message "Validation of engine failed with error 258 ", you are maybe using an old component of AntiVir program, update.exe. The solution is to download an updated and fixed update.exe module from the Avira website. slide 4 of 5 Third-Party Security Software Can Cause Conflict Updating AntiVir Avira does not recommend using any additional ant

Hi has anyone here with AVG 8 (free edition) been experiencing any problems since installing? I've noticed since installing on my PC, programs seem to now take ages loading up and then freezing, same as with opening web browser, checked task manager and it's often showing 100% usage. Done spyware checks and virus check, results show nothing also given the pc a clear out but still really slow. humphryb Please sign critical error in or register to remove this advertisement. 13-05-2008, 00:07 #2 wavy-davy Forum Member Join Date: Nov 2006 Location: NW England Posts: 6,792 Have you tried turning the Web scanner off? wavy-davy View Public Profile Find More Posts by wavy-davy 13-05-2008, 00:11 #3 humphryb Posts: n/a Will give that a go, cheers. Will it improve performance overall or just loading up webpages? as the pages themselves seem to load ok, it's just any programs. humphryb 13-05-2008, 23:30 critical error validation #4 fuzzgog Forum Member Join Date: Jan 2005 Posts: 34 Yes I've had problems too. I'm still trying to narrow it down but I think it may be a resource hog. Several times I have been working on my computer (usually internet/Firefox) and it either reboots totally or goes to a blue screen telling me something about a memory dump (I'm using W2K) and I have to reboot manually. It also does it of its own accord when the daily virus scanner runs. I've only had these problems since installing version 8. Looks like I'll have to uninstall it although Grisoft say they won't be supporting version 7 any longer. fuzzgog View Public Profile Find More Posts by fuzzgog 13-05-2008, 23:31 #5 Bluenile Inactive Member Join Date: May 2006 Location: Wigan, Lancashire.
