We had some significant development, debugging issues with global variables going out of scope. So in a crude solution to this problem we have move them all to form controls. Eg. Forms!frmGlobals.lblControlName However if we misspell https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/eaec5103-64df-4e30-a4ef-d07ff0c23a09/microsoft-access-2465-application-defined-error-form-control-code-referencecompile-issue?forum=isvvba the control name we can compile the application and when the code is eventualy used, we get the error: "2465 - Application-defined or object defined error". This is killing us, because there are, lots of references to global variables (16 applications within the one Access database). If we use the syntax Forms.Item("frmGlobals").Controls.Item("lblControlName") We get the same error number but with a different message Eg. "2465 - Microsoft Access can't find the field "lblControlmisspelt" refered in your expression". This message is better, however the underlying problem is that the VBA code compiles where in most other VB syntax programming languages (VB6, VB.net) you would get an compile error of some sort. Why is the VBA compiler for Access 2003 allowing missspelt controls with the following syntax? Eg Forms!frmName.ControlMisSpelt Why does debugging Access 2003 application cause global variables to loose/reset data? Why does Public properties in Forms also loose data while debugging in the same fashion as global variables? Specifically, this particular user can open any database, but when they try to use the Report Wizard, at the end of the wizard they are getting defined or object the generic error message, "Application-defined or object-defined error". This is no error number or any further details, but this error happens consistently, regardless of the contents of the report or which database/tables are involved. Some info that may be pertinent: Most of the database files are stored on a network share. This particular user can use Access on other computers without getting the error. It appears that, at one point, Access 2010 was installed alongside Access 2007. We have tried repairing the Access 2007 installation but it has not helped. The computer in question last ran Windows updates approximately 6 months ago, at which point Office 2007 Service Pack 3 was installed, along with several other Office 2007-related updates. This may coincide with when the user first started experiencing these problems, but I can't be sure. My initial guess is that there is something wonky with the Access 2007 installation, but I don't know exactly what. I have two more subforms SEARCH and RESULTS as tabbed forms in UI. After I search in SEARCH form, when I click the RESULTS tab I want the value from a combo box named 'cmbID' in SEARCH to be displayed in a label named 'lblAIPIDDisp' in RESULTS form and then display additional labels. So, I gave the following code in the navigation Button Click Event: Expand|Select|Wrap|Line Numbers PrivateSubNavigationButton32_Click() Form_RESULTS.lblAIPIDDisp.Caption=[Forms]![UI]![SEARCH].cmbID.Value EndSub But I get Run Time Error 2465. So, I tried searching in SEARCH form separately and gave the following code in Form Load Event of RESULTS form: Expand|Select|Wrap|Line Numbers PrivateSubForm_Load() Form_RESULTS.lblAIPIDDisp.Caption=[Forms]![SEARCH].cmbID.Value EndSub Now, I searched in SEARCH Form and clicked on RESULTS form. Note that it's not the name of the subform but the name of the thing that the subform is in. Also, be sure to go to the trouble to actively choose names for all of your controls. NavigationButton32 tells you nothing about the fun
