of the Day Your money could be worth more than you think, thanks to eight tiny numbers. Most people don't even notice the serial number printed on their dollars. But currency collectors do—and some are willing 2009 one dollar bill error to pay big bucks for an especially unusual number. "Fancy" serial numbers can go for tens of thousands of dollars--depending on how rare the combination is. "If you look at a dollar bill, the number can just jump out at you," Dave Undis, founder of CoolSerialNumbers.com, a website that buys, sells and trades fancy serial numbers, told The Boston Globe. "You see something like a super radar, and your head says you 1976 2 dollar bill error just gotta have it." Common fancy numbers are often very low numbers like those found on newly released notes. For example, the new $100 –to be released on Oct 8.--will have a serial number of 00000001 that, experts estimate, could go for $10,000 to $15,000. But aside from low numbers, there are a variety of different combinations coveted by currency collectors. Undis breaks down the different categories that makes serial number "fancy" on his website. OK, GET YOUR WALLETS AND TAKE OUT YOUR WAD OF ONES.... Solid numbers, for example, are made of the same digits- like 88888888—and can go for an upwards of $3,000. Then there are "ladders," or numbers going in sequence like 12345678. These can go for as much as $1,300. A "radar" is a palindrome, like 35299253, those only go for $20-40, and "repeaters" are notes with two blocks of the same four digits, like 41884188. Serious money mavens can buy sets of fancy serial numbers for thousands of dollars on websites like CoolSerialNumbers.com. For example, one three note set totaling $35 with the serial number K00000000A is priced at $16,500. And another set of nine $5 bills with serial numbers #E00000011 through #E000000099 is selling for $1,800. Brianna Ehley Brianna Ehley is the former Washington Correspondent for The Fiscal T

Dollar Bill Error? Do you have note or currency and want to know its value? Leave a comment/question and I will do my best to find out the price and history for you. Bbsprite said... Hello I was wanting to find out if you would be able to help me I have 8 consecutive 20 dollar bills without the little 20 printed on the back of any of them I have enclosed a picture of the front of one and the back of another would you be able to tell me what they are worth any help would be greatly appreciated Thank You Belinda Error 20'S Wow she linked pictures and everything. And if you thought that would simplify it you were wrong. This was beyond my knowledge, beyond my Web search, even beyond my books. So I looked into my network of collectors who also never saw this error. The small yellow "20"s on the back is an anti-copying security feature, --Check for the nylon thread on the front to the left of the left side-dark seal. --Check for the watermark of Jackson's head on the front to the right of the right-sided green seal. --Hold the bill in front of a light to see the hidden features. If they are not there then you have counterfeit bills. Which also has value. If they are there then the bills are real and according to my source each bill is worth $200.00 for a total of $1,600.00. (This is only an educated guess since yours are the first reported.) Thanks for the visit Belinda and sorry for the long delay but it is a new bill and a strange error. If I have more updates or find them on eBay I'll post a link but I'd try to sell half of them to a local dealer before more are found. Here is a cool error that sold on eBay for $10,100 in May 2003 and now sold at $25,300. It's called the "banana note" and has a Del Monte sticker that fell on it midway during printing and was not caught and destroyed. Do you have note or currency and want to know its value? Leave a comment/question and I will do my best to find out the price and history for you. I have a 1995 dollar bill that with defects. It is in good condition and the flaws are:- The federal reserve bank seal, treasury seal, the serial numbers and the four single numbers are well off center to the left. In fact the treasurt seal and top left serial number are stamped into the portrait space of George Washington. Can you tell how rare this is and if it has any substantial value. Thanks - Doug - 10:36 AM, January 07, 2006 Man said...
