a minute: Sign up MySQL error - #1062 - Duplicate entry ' ' for key 2 up vote 15 down vote favorite 2 I'm trying to insert a huge list of users to a MySQL database but everytime I try I get the error: #1062 - Duplicate entry '' for key 2 It gives me this because the 2nd column is blank error code 1062 duplicate entry for key primary on quite a lot of the entries, so after it's inserted one blank entry in column 2, it won't let me add another. However, when I added most of the list yesterday I didn't get this error once even though a lot of the entries I added yesterday have a blank cell in column 2 as well. Whats going on? This is the sql code to insert 1 entry. The rest follow the same format: INSERT INTO users (`id`,`title`,`firstname`,`lastname`,`company`,`address`,`city`,`county` ,`postcode`,`phone`,`mobile`,`category`,`email`,`password`,`userlevel`) VALUES ('','','John','Doe','company','Streeet','city','county' ,'postcode','phone','','category','emial@email.co.uk','',''); mysql database share|improve this question edited May 27 '11 at 14:20 Johan 48.8k16105201 asked May 27 '11 at 14:18 nutman 1611417 Wasn't an unique index added? –MatTheCat May 27 '11 at 14:20 3 Do a SHOW CREATE TABLE on that table so we can see the schema. –josh.trow May 27 '11 at 14:20 add a comment| 8 Answers 8 active oldest votes up vote 10 down vote accepted In addition to Sabeen's answer: The first column id is your primary key. Duplicate entry in mysql up vote 3 down vote favorite I have a MySQL table whose schema in which column 1 is primary key. I have a tsv file which I need to insert in this table. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/6153552/mysql-error-1062-duplicate-entry-for-key-2 Now, the tsv has repetition of primary key hence when I try to insert it in MySQL table it gives an error ERROR 1062 (23000): Duplicate entry '107664521128181760' for key 'PRIMARY' Is there any way by which if the primary key value already exists, then it should ignore and move further for next insertion. mysql mysql-error-1062 share|improve this question edited Mar 2 at 5:35 Mongrel 124112 asked Apr 9 '15 at 18:01 Saurabh 7728 1 How are you inserting the records? You can try like this: INSERT IGNORE INTO yourtablename(col1,col2...) values(val1,val2,...) share|improve this answer answered Apr 9 '15 at 18:05 Rahul Tripathi 101k1593172 add a comment| up vote 2 down vote It depends on how you are importing the data. If you are using LOAD DATA INFILE command then use IGNORE in command as: LOAD DATA INFILE 'member.tsv' IGNORE INTO TABLE tbl_member FIELDS TERMINATED BY '\t' LINES TERMINATED BY '\n' (name, age); And if you are using sql having INSERT command then use INSERT IGNORE in INSERT command as: INSERT IGNORE INTO yourtablename(col1,col2...) values(val1,val2,...) share|improve this answer answered Jul 2 '15 at 16:29 Aman Aggarwal 1,9902929 add a comment| up vote 0 down vote You are probably looking for REPLACE query.
