Empathy Msn Network Error 11.10
Bug #509721: empathy reports network error and requires killing telepathy-butterfly / telepathy-haze. Edit Remove 138 This bug affects 29 people Affects Status Importance Assigned to Milestone telepathy-butterfly Edit New Undecided Unassigned Edit telepathy-butterfly (Ubuntu) Edit Confirmed Low Unassigned Edit Also affects project (?) Also affects distribution/package Nominate for series Bug Description Binary package hint: empathy Using MSN with empathy is almost impossible since most of the time it reports "Network error". Please note, that I have no problem with other IM clients using the same user. Also, there can't be major network problem: I am using 1Gbit LAN connection to the ISP's backbone network, also as I've mentioned, no problem with other clients. Also it's a bit misleading to show "edit contact" window, since user can't edit any setting which can solve this problem, I think :) It's up-to-date ubuntu karmic running on 32 bit x86 platform. or MSN. It shows "Network Error" for Facebook and "No reason specified" for MSN. Funny thing is that I can connect to Gtalk. Already updated it using the last update in the ppa found in some post over here, but that didn't solve it too. Does anyone https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/513346 know how to solve it? Thanks! What am I jabbering about? Empathy with Microsoft's newly-implemented MSN XMPP empathy msn support… How to install Empathy with MSN XMPP support in Ubuntu 11.10 Before we add and upgrade the necessary stuff you need to check two things: - You're running Ubuntu 11.10 That you're okay with adding potentially unstable software to your system. If you've decided the hassle isn't worth it - that's fine. This feature empathy msn network will be available in Ubuntu 12.04 come April. But if you nodded to both of those questions then we're free to proceed…. First step is to add the ‘Telepathy Unstable PPA‘ to your Software Sources. This can be done quickest by using the Terminal. Open a Terminal and enter the following two lines separately, inputting your user password where prompted: - sudo add-apt-repository ppa:telepathy/ppa sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade To upgrade without involving the Terminal one must first add ‘ppa:telepathy/ppa‘ to Software Sources. Once this has been done, open the ‘Update Manager‘ using the Unity Dash and hit the ‘Check‘ button followed by ‘Upgrade‘ in the Update Manager window. With everything upgraded to the latest and greatest all that's left is to open System Settings > Online Accounts and add your Windows Live information. Once authorised here Empathy will automatically use the GOA information for future logins.
