Empathy Msn Network Error
Bug #509721: empathy reports network error and requires killing telepathy-butterfly / telepathy-haze. Also affects distribution/package Nominate for series Bug Description Binary package hint: empathy Using MSN with empathy is almost impossible since most of the time it reports "Network error". Please note, that I have no problem with other IM clients using the same user. Also, there can't be major network problem: I am using 1Gbit LAN connection to the ISP's backbone network, also as I've mentioned, no problem with other clients. Also it's a bit misleading to show "edit contact" window, since user can't edit any setting which can solve this problem, I think :) It's up-to-date ubuntu karmic running on 32 bit x86 platform. Resolution: An update is pending approval and will be available for both Ubuntu 10.04 and 10.10. Informal patches are available, however, I prefer to stick to the mainline distribution as https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/513346 much as possible to avoid introducing tightly coupled dependencies. Remove telepathy-butterfly and its dependencies. sudo killall telepathy-butterfly sudo dpkg --purge telepathy-butterfly sudo apt-get install telepathy-haze Reconfigure your MSN connections and attempt to activate http://solutions.unixsherpa.com/2011/03/21/empathy-reports-network-error-when-connecting-to-msn/ them. You should experience no additional issues. On my work machine (on a different network) it just never connects --- continuous flashing icon and 'Connecting...' message. Work has a transparent HTTP proxy, home has an explicit proxy on a different port, but that shouldn't apply here because MSN doesn'
