Description Jay Cassano 2010-11-15 01:06:59 UTC Hello, I originally posted this bug on GNOME bugzilla for Empathy (2.30.2) and was told to repost it here. Thanks in advance for looking into it. Hi, I tried to find an open bug for this since I'm sure it's been covered before, but I couldn't see one. Sorry if this is a duplicate report. I use Empathy to connect to two different MSN accounts. I used the workaround posted on http://live.gnome.org/Empathy/Protocols for a while, despite its inconvenience. However, that stopped working reliably. Eventually I found a couple of threads on Ubuntu Forums (can't find the links now sorry, will search for them if you'd like) that recommended uninstalling telepathy-butterfly and using telepathy-haze instead. I did this and everything was working smoothly for a few days. However, now I can only connect to one MSN account and not the other. Both are @hotmail.com accounts, so I'm not sure why one works and the other doesn't. I saw another open bug about MSN not working if the password is too long so I tried changing to a shorter password but that didn't fix the issue. Let me know if there's any more info I can help you with. and Facebook. The message is "Network Error". This forum thread hints a solution: Simply run "killall telepathy-butterfly" and restart empathy. Like this:Like Loading... Anybody else have any fixes https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=31628 or suggestions for this nuisance? Ben Says: November 14, 2009 at 5:26 pm | Reply This isn't a new problem for me, but it seems to happen a great deal lately. Sometimes with all accounts, sometimes mostly with msn, and sometimes with gmail - in fact my gmail has been off for the last 5 days straight (before that I was connected, and would get an IM everytime I posted a blip to Google Wave… https://aslakjohansen.wordpress.com/2009/07/27/empathy-gives-network-error/ This is just toooooo damned annoying - and it seems the solutions aren't too concrete. IM seems to be something that needs fine tuning to keep working - and that seems to be tuned for Windows or Mac environments. Ben Says: November 14, 2009 at 5:29 pm | Reply Something JUST worked…. I was running Empathy, and killing stuff didn't work. Then I fired up aMSN and logged into MSN there. Then I fired up Pidgin… and had an ‘add MSN contact' from aMSN - which I accepted. Then I told pidgin to re-enable the MSN account (which failed to login, because it was on aMSN) Then I killed aMSN - and Pidgin put ALL the lights on. XMPP and Yahoo and MSN. That fixed it for me. Easy and simple NoTriX Says: June 14, 2011 at 8:37 am | Reply This worked for me! the Karmic RC and I'm having trouble connecting to MSN with Empathy. Whenever I try to connect I get an error message saying simply "Network Error". https://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-1303424.html I am certain I am using the correct login information. If it helps, http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/ubuntu-63/network-error-on-empathy-851467/ I could connect to MSN with Pidgin, but only using 'HTTP Method', which Empathy doesn't appear to have. I have a hunch that the cause of these problems may be something to do with my MSN address being "@fsmail.net" as opposed to "@hotmail.com" or "@hotmail.co.uk". Any help would be appreciated. Thanks empathy msn in advance. sideffectsOctober 28th, 2009, 07:07 PMI just installed the Karmic RC and I'm having trouble connecting to MSN with Empathy.
