Everything was screwed up so I removed 9 and went back to 8. Thank you for your solution. I usually get a message that someone posted yet I didn't get one this time -- sorry for the delay Bette 0 Write Comment First Name Please enter a first name Last Name Please enter a last name Email We will never share this with anyone. An attempt was made to access a socket in a way forbidden by its access permissions My app ran fine. I then made a code change and restarted it. I got socket error 10013 that error. I suspected i have to reuse ports so i wrote this in and still had no luck server.Server.SetSocketOption(SocketOptionLevel.Socket, SocketOptionName.ReuseAddress, 1); How do i solve this error? -edit- I did notice if i close FireFox (with its many tabs) and run the program it works... Maybe it has something to do with a connection? (i had ajax communicate with it). I wonder what did it. .net sockets windows-7 tcplistener share|improve this question asked Jul 23 '10 at 1:01 acidzombie24 42.7k136454814 Perhaps firefox was using the port that your app was trying to grab. –AndrewS Jul 23 '10 at 1:23 add a comment| 3 Answers 3 active oldest votes up vote 4 down vote This error code is caused by attempting to bind to a port that is exclusively in use by another process. The most common cause is accidentally starting the same service twice. If in doubt, a quick check of netstat -a TCPView should reveal which process has the port open. share|improve this answer edited Jul 23 '10 at 10:41 answered Jul 23 '10 at 1:

It was working last night, and when I went to test a feature after a few hours of coding, nothing would bind. Other facts: The same code works on my other PCs, so it's clearly something unique to my main dev machine. A bind to TCP port 8080 (the app has a mini-HTTP server) does work. Other applications I've written that listen to the same 63000-range ports also fail on this computer. Here's some code that is failing: err = WSAStartup(wVersionRequested, &wsaData); if(err == 0) { aSocket = socket(AF_INET, SOCK_STREAM, IPPROTO_TCP); if(aSocket != INVALID_SOCKET) { SOCKADDR_IN ReceiverAddr; // The IPv4 family ReceiverAddr.sin_family = AF_INET; // Port no. 63939 ReceiverAddr.sin_port = htons(iPort); // From all interface (0.0.0.0) ReceiverAddr.sin_addr.s_addr = htonl(INADDR_ANY); err = bind(aSocket, (SOCKADDR*)&ReceiverAddr, sizeof(ReceiverAddr)); if(err == 0) { I have tried: Disabling my Windows firewall (as suggested as the common fix) Disabling Windows Defender Running the app as administrator Rebooting Disabling/enabling my network drivers Renaming the app in question (in case the firewall was set to ban) Reverting to a known-good version of the app Trying some other known-good networking applications I've written (they also fail wi
