occurred while attempting to read from file XXXX.msiA customer reported a problem with the above error message when installing one of our SW tools. After analysing the problem we discovered what he did wrong. I want to share that and how we fixed it:- We have 2 different MSI applications installing one product. Let's say DistributionA includes MyProduct and DistributionB is MyProduct standalone installer. When installing DistributionA, any DistributionB is uninstalled before install. But DistributionB can be installed on top of DistributionA and the files are overwritten. The customer had DistributionA + DistributionB + some updates of DistributionA.He uninstalled DistributionA and when he experienced problems, he removed DistributionB using Windows Installer Clean Up tool. This tool left some traces of DistributionB, and then a new version of DistributionA failed to install.- How to solve it ?Open the registry (regedit) and...1) navigate to HKLM\SOFTWARE\CLASSES\INSTALLER\PRODUCTS2) do search for "DistributionB.msi"3) if found any, delete it.4) navigate to HKLM\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\5) search for any key with display name "DistributionB"6) if found any, delete the entire key Posted by Oscar at 11:51 No comments: Post a Comment Newer Post Older Post Home Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom) There was an error in this gadget Link List Flexera KB InstallSite My Blog List msigeek.com | Technology blog on Tips, Ebooks & Webcasts SlideModel.com: A modern source for Business PowerPoint Templates 2 months ago RobMensching.com /Blog - Posts WiX Toolset v3.10.3 Released 3 months ago Windows Installer Team Blog Developing for Windows 7 7 years ago Heath Stewart's Blog Aaron Stebner's WebLog Blog Archive ► 2015 (1) ► December (1) ► 2013 (3) ► August (1) ► June (1) ► May (1) ► 2011 (5) ► December (1) ► November (2) ► October (1) ► July (1) ▼ 2010 (9) ► October (1) ► May (1) ▼ April (2) How to prevent that your product appears in the Ad...
