I know that you already found this thread: http://reboot.pro/to...b4dos-error-17/ and consequently this one where a simiar issue was solved: http://reboot.pro/?showtopic=3833 There is an issue with the board that corrupted or botched *anything* that was in a Codebox, so let's start again from fresh. Please describe your PC (make/model) and the OS you were running before, if it had more than one partition on hard disk, please post any info you may remember about them. When you boot and you get the: Boot failed. Press any key to enter command line. press a key and you should find yourself at a prompt like: grub> at it type: geometry (hd0) and press [ENTER] You should get feedback like (similar to, but not the same): geometry (hd0) = drive 0x80(LBA): C/H/S=155061/255/63, S

I'm trying to use NeoGrub to boot into Hardy Heron, but, as you might guess by my admission of being an absolute beginner, things aren't going quite as planned. However, I do think I might have the savvy to know what the problem is...I merely need help fixing it. Here reads the NeoGrub boot information for Hardy: "#This is the only entry title Booting Ubuntu Linux (Skip Notification: "Enter")... root (hd0,1) #Load Ubuntu from the 1st hard disk's 2nd partition. #Next Line: Translate (hd0,1) to Linux notation and set that as the root partition kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.22-14-generic root=/dev/sdbc initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.22-14-generic #End Ubuntu entry" Here's the deal...I'm going to guess, right off the top of my head, that the kernel and initrd locations are dead wrong. This guess stems from the fact that I get "Error 17: File not found" every time NeoGrub tries to load the kernel. "If you know this," you might scoff, "then what's the problem?" Well, I, being an idiot, have no idea whatsoever as to the correct locations, and therefore am presently in a deadlock with my computer. As a point of interest, EasyBCD has had no troubles helping me boot XP or Vista...but I really want
Ubuntu Error 22) kblairOctober 16th, 2009, 04:18 PMSo there's dozens of threads similar to this but I can't find a solution through any of them (I've been searching and trying things for https://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-1292846.html days before posting). Situation.. First drive in system (sda) with two partitions. 1. Shrink 2nd partition on drive to make room for Ubuntu 2. Let Ubuntu installer use that free space and set http://www.gamespot.com/forums/offtopic-discussion-314159273/error-dual-booting-vista-and-ubuntu-810-please-hel-26842975/ up its install/swap partitions 3. Ubuntu installs fine, reboots and shows Grub and goes into Ubuntu fine. Easy enough, right? Reboot and choose Vista from the Grub menu and *poof* the PC reboots before error 17 I ever see the Windows screen or anything related to Windows. Every time I choose Windows on the Grub menu, it reboots the PC as it tries to load. Choosing Ubuntu works fine. So.. I load up the windows recovery disk, fix the MBR and it boots into windows no problem. Install EasyBCD and follow the online instructions I found for adding NeoGrub to the windows up.. reboot, error 17 file the windows boot menu comes up, can boot into windows fine. Reboot and choose NeoGrub and I get the error 17 about files not found. I doube, triple, quadruple check and set the proper settings from menu.lst and they're fine. I go and do the whole boot (hd0,4) , setup (hd0) thing with the CD instance of Ubuntu.. great. Now I can boot into Ubuntu again but choosing Windows makes the computer reboot. So in summary.. I can either fix the windows MBR and boot into Vista but not able to find Ubuntu, or I can set the Ubuntu MBR and the computer reboots when choosing Vista. (btw: I've tried the supergrub disk, found no fixes there either unless I just didnt know enough of what I was doing) Here's my menu.lst from Ubuntu that I used in EasyBCD / NeoGrub: title Ubuntu 9.04, kernel 2.6.28-15-generic uuid aba1882c-50cc-424e-bea7-5319c49d1c33 kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.28-15-generic root=UUID=aba1882c-50cc-424e-bea7-5319c49d1c33 ro xforcevesa quiet splash initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.28-15-generic quiet title Ubuntu 9.04, kernel 2.6.28-15-generic (recovery mode) uuid aba1882c-50cc-424e-bea7-5319c49d1c33 kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.28-15-generic root=UUID=aba1882c-50cc-424e-bea7-5319c49d1c33 ro xforcevesa single initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.28-15-generic title Ubuntu 9.04, kernel 2.6.28-11-generic uuid aba1882c-50cc-424e-bea7-5319c49d1c33 kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.28-11-generic root=UUID=aba1882c-50cc-424e-bea7-5319c49d1c33 ro xforcevesa quiet splash initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.28-11-generic quiet title Ubuntu 9.04, kernel 2.6.28-11-generic (recovery mode) uuid aba1882c-5
