I just forgot https://forums.techguy.org/threads/solved-win-ini-error-1913.655069/ to mention it. Rename Win.ini and Install Office 1. Locate the Windows directory on your computer. 2. In the Windows directory, locate the Win.ini file, and right-click the file. On the menu that appears, click Rename. 3. Type win.old and then press ENTER. 4. Restart the computer. 5. Install Office 2000. 6. Repeat steps 1 and 2, and rename the file back to Win.ini. 7. Restart the computer MisterT, Nov 23, 2007 #3 MisterT Thread Starter Joined: Nov 23, 2007 Messages: 14 Is there a way to obtain a new win.ini? Presto Page manager was installed after I got a new printer. I have uninstalled Presto Page Manager and reinstalled it to no avail. I do not understand why or how this happened. What the heck is a win.ini and why can O not change it or get a new one as a download. This is very frustrating because it prevents me from updating Windows apps. 2008. ImTinkerbell Guest I am attempting to install Office 2007 Professional. I continually get the error message: Error 1913: Setup cannot update file C:/windows/win.ini. Verify that the file exists in your system and that you have sufficient permissions to update it. I have tried all recommended advice that I found online: 1) I am logged in as system admin 2) The win.ini file DOES exist, and does not exceed 64kb 3) The "read only" box IS not checked 4) I have tried renaming win.ini to win.old, rebooted, attempted to install software (same error), renamed file back, rebooted. Microsoft indicates that I should be able to contact them for support, but are asking that I provide the product code. However, I cannot obtain the product code as it is NOT yet installed on my computer... which is the problem to begin with. Has ANYONE else had this difficulty? It does not allow me to uninstall previous versions of office without giving be the same error 1913 win.ini issue. I am getting desperate and really frustrated. Does anyone have any ideas, suggestions, experience with this same issue? I really would appreciate any help! Thank you! ImTinkerbell, Sep 22, 2008 #1 Advertisements Dinesh Lal Guest error 1913 even after basic steps We need to check weather the computer is on a domain or a network. If so make it to a standalone computer,Disable the thirdparty programs and we will be able to install office without any difficulty. > On Sunday, September 21, 2008 9:12 PM ImTinkerbel wrote: > I am attempting to install Office 2007 Professional.
