Error 1920 Netframework 2.0
permissions and regtlibv12.exe is now fixed ★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★ Aaron StebnerAugust 29, 200517 0 0 0 A little while ago I wrote a post explaining how to report a bug in the .NET Framework and Visual Studio setup. I tried to encourage everyone who read that post to report bugs they find instead of giving up on installing VS 2005, reformatting their hard drive, or something like that. I wanted to share a concrete example of what can happen when you do report a bug. A little while after .NET Framework 2.0 beta 2 and VS 2005 beta 2 shipped, I heard from a couple of customers who could not get the .NET Framework 2.0 beta to install correctly. It repeatedly failed and rolled back while trying to register type libraries. I had not heard of anyone running into an issue like this in .NET 1.0 or 1.1 or in any of the previous beta builds of .NET 2.0. In addition, none of the teamsworking on VS 2005 and .NET 2.0 had seen this problem during daily testing, official test passes, etc. Iworked closely with one of the customers and we narrowed down the problem to missing registry permissions. The typelib registration is done by a custom action inside of .NET Framework setup, and the custom actions were marked with a flag that caused Windows Installer to "impersonate" the logged in user and run the action with the same permission as the user who is running setup. In nearly all cases, that works fine because .NET Framework setup requires that the user be an administrator in order for setup to launch and run correctly. However, on this customer's machine the Administrators group did not have permissions to the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT hive that is needed to register type libraries. This investigation gave us a cause for the setup failure, but not any ideas about how the machine got into that state so that we could try to come up with a solution. One other customer who reported this same bug on the Customer Feedback website provided us a workaround (described here), but the steps were pretty involved. After some brainstorming with the .NET Framework setup team and the Windows Installer team, we decided to try marking these type
of this writing, I don't believe that Equallogic/Dell is officially supporting Windows Server 2012 or Hyper-V 2012, but I can confirm that the HIT kit will install and run just fine on Hyper-V 2012. Follow these steps at your own risk. Updated January 4, 2013: HIT Kit 4.5 has been released with support for Windows Server 2012. Please see Andreas Berg's comment below for the link. When I first tried to install, I received the following error: "Error 1920. Service EqualLogic Auto-Snapshot Manager Agent (EqlASMAgent) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services." I was running the installation as a domain administrator and tested that I was able to start other system https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/astebner/2005/08/29/net-framework-2-0-setup-bug-related-to-registry-permissions-and-regtlibv12-exe-is-now-fixed/ services, so I knew that it wasn't a problem with privileges. For verification, I tested with the local administrator account and that didn't work either. I still don't know exactly what the underlying cause is, but it appears that the installer can't properly verify the presence of prerequisite components. I installed a series of basic Windows features until I was able to get the HIT kit to install. I did not disable features between attempts so I https://etechgoodness.wordpress.com/2012/09/17/1920-error-in-equallogic-hit-kit-on-windows-serverhyper-v-2012/ can't be certain what the exact required combination of features is, but the last feature I enabled before it started working was the .Net Framework 2.0. From working with a GUI installation of Server 2012, I believe that this is the only required component, but I had also installed Windows PowerShell 2 so I'm including it in the directions just to be safe. I also noticed that the HIT kit didn't automatically enable MPIO like it does on 2008/2008 R2. For Server Core 2012 or Hyper-V 2012, run the following at the command prompt (feature names are case sensitive): DISM.EXE /ONLINE /ENABLE-FEATURE /FEATURENAME:NetFx2-ServerCore /FEATURENAME:MicrosoftWindowsPowershellV2 /FEATURENAME:MultipathIo Installation within a GUI version of Server 2012 isn't as easy because the .Net Framework 2.0 isn't a standalone installer. It's part of the 3.5 installer, and Microsoft has removed that from the online image (why?). You'll need your Windows 2012 DVD. You can find command-line instructions on the ServerFault site. To use the GUI, start in Server Manager and on the front page, click "Add roles and features". Step through the initial screens to the "Server Roles" tab and set it as in the following screen shot: All that's done is the box for .Net 3.5 has been checked but both activation methods are left uninstalled. Step through to the confirmation screen. At the very bottom, there is a link to "Specify an alternate

'As a student' and using a variety of test error 1920 machines I have then downloaded the SEB2 installer and the examination configuration file. Here's what happened. Various Windows 7 machines: SEB2 installed successfully and double-clicking on the examination configuration file took me to our website where I was able to login, take the exam, and close SEB from a link. (I sometimes saw the failed to contact www.safeexambrowser.org message discussed elsewhere error 1920 netframework in this forum.). So first things first: This is good! Thank you! Windows 8: Using one of the test machines from above I installed clean versions of first Windows 8 then Windows 8.1. I then tried to run the SEB installer both as a normal user and also with 'Run as administrator'. In all cases I got “Error 1920. Service SEB Windows Service (SebWindowsService) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services.” I confirmed that I was able to stop and start services from the control panel using Administrative tools. Any ideas? If you would like to refer to this comment somewhere else in this project, copy and paste the following link: Daniel Schneider - 2014-02-23 The problem is that the current implementation of the SEB Windows Service only gets properly started or stopped by the installer when running in .NET 3.5. Unfortunately .NET 3.5 can be switched off on some machines. Then the SEB Windows Service gets executed with the highest installed .NET version which emulates .NET 3.5, but then starting/stopping the service fai
