Since I still have ESX 3.5 U4 hosts in my DRS cluster I still need the licensing service. When I try to install the licensing server on the new vCenter 4.0 server I get an error during setup. The error is: Error 1920.Service VMware License Server (VMware License Server) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services.I am a local administrator on the server and ran the setup using the "Run as Administrator" option. My server is Window 2008 Enterprise Edition x64 with SP2.License Server Build is 2.5.0.64192.Has anyone else experienced this? Any resolution? 8495Views Tags: none (add) vcenterContent tagged with vcenter, virtualcenterContent tagged with virtualcenter, licensingContent tagged with licensing, windowsContent tagged with windows, 2008Content tagged with 2008, 64-bitContent tagged with 64-bit, x64Content tagged with x64 This content has been marked as final. I was trying to install VMware License Server on a Window Server 2008 32bit server and the install would fail saying https://communities.vmware.com/thread/222206?tstart=0 it cannot start system services. After checking to make sure that I had not made some dumb mistake with my account I hit the intertubes and found that others had the same issue. I was able to get pass this issue by downloading the latest copy of Virtual Center server 2.5 update 6 and then extracting the License server install file from the VPX folder. Seems http://www.virtualizetips.com/2010/06/03/error-while-installing-vmware-license-server-on-windows-2008/ that the copy from the install .iso file is newer than the file available for direct downloading. Maybe VMware can fix this soon. I did not try it but according to some other posts the version in VC 2.5 U5 might also work. Once I installed this version it worked the first time. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services up vote 5 down vote favorite We have created a custom windows service. The deployment package is error 1920 done in InstallShield and the installation prompts for the user name and password for the service Log On account. We have had no issues at all installing on various Windows 7 (Professional) and Windows 8 machines, but we get the 1920 error when trying to deploy to a Windows 7 Ultimate machine. We have not yet confirmed whether the issue is to do with the OS or the specific machine that we are trying to install this on. The installer error 1920 service is always run by right-clicking and "Run as Administrator", and the users (both, the user running the installer and the Logon User for which the credentials are supplied) are administrators on the machine. Usually the logged in user installing the service, and the Logon user running the service are the same. Here are the things we have tried. Verified the Logon user is a member of Administrators. Verified the user account settings are exactly the same as another machine where it works. Verified from Control Panel - Administrative tools - Local Security Policy - Local Policies - Security Options = that these again match machine where it works. Ensured that all windows updates have been applied. Verified that the Windows Management Instrumentation Service is running. Restarted it. Rebooted the machine, then tried again. Added "generatePublisherEvidence" element in the service configuration file. (Service failed to start error 1920) But none of the above work. Hope that someone else has come across a similar issue and has a fix.. UPDATE: I have also tried the following: Open SecPol.msc Navigate to Local Policies/User Rights Assigment Find "Log on as a service" policy and add the service account windows service installation share|improve this question edited Nov 19 '13 at 1:59 asked Nov 19 '13 at 0:50 smitra 1502313 add a comment| 5 Answers 5 active oldest votes up vote 8 down vote accepted 1920 is a generic error code that means
