service. The deployment package is done in InstallShield and the installation prompts for the user name and password for the service Log On account. We have had no issues at all installing on various Windows 7 (Professional) and Windows 8 machines, but we get the 1920 error when trying to deploy to a Windows 7 Ultimate machine. We have not yet confirmed whether the issue is to do with the OS or the specific machine that we error 1920 service symantec endpoint protection failed to start are trying to install this on. The installer is always run by right-clicking and "Run as Administrator", and the users (both, the user running the installer and the Logon User for which the credentials are supplied) are administrators on the machine. Usually the logged in user installing the service, and the Logon user running the service are the same. Here are the things we have tried. Verified the Logon user is a member of Administrators. Verified the user account settings are exactly the same as another machine where it works. Verified from Control Panel - Administrative tools - Local Security Policy - Local Policies - Security Options = that these again match machine where it works. Ensured that all windows updates have been applied. Verified that the Windows Management Instrumentation Service is running. Restarted it. Rebooted the machine, then tried again. Added "generatePublisherEvidence" element in the service configuration file. (Service failed to start error 1920) But none of the above work. Hope that someone else has come across a similar issue and has a fix.. UPDATE: I have also tried the following: Open SecPol.msc Navigate to Local Policies/User Rights Assigment Find "Log on as a service" policy and add the service account windows service installation share|improve this question edited Nov 19 '13 at 1:59 asked Nov 19 '13 at 0:50 smitra 1502313 add a comment| 5 Answers 5 active oldes

The Startname field is left blank in the ServiceInstall table, which, according to the error 1920 documentation means the LocalSystem account will be used. But this doesn't seem to be enough to do it. Any suggestions gratefully appreaciated. Business Site Service failed to start' during installation/upgrade of the VIPRE Business Console Modified on: Fri, 15 May, 2015 at 11:41 AM PROBLEM The following error is encountered when attempting to install or upgrade the VIPRE Business Console: "Error 1920. Service VIPRE Business Site Service failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services." ENVIRONMENT VIPRE Business VIPRE Business Premium All Supported Environments SOLUTION It is possible that this error is related to the account being used to start the Vipre Business Site Service. If this is the case, using Services.msc to change the log-on account used should resolve the issue. However, this is most likely a Windows-pipe timeout on the attempted start of the VIPRE Business site service. This can be verified by the following:To Verify: Without cancelling the update, go to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services Locate the VIPRE Business Site Service (probably stopped) Attempt to start the service. If it returns with Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion, please perform the below rectify the problem. To Rectify: Use the instructions in the following article to add the ServicesPipeTimeout DWORD entry:http://vavsupport.threattracksecurity.com/support/solutions/articles/1000071019 CAUSE The Microsoft Windows Service Control Manager controls the state (i.e., started, stopped, paused, etc.) of all installed Windows services. By default, the Service Control Manager will wait 30,000 milliseconds (30 seconds) for a service to respond. However, certain configurations, technical restrictions or performance issues may result in the service taking longer than 30 seconds to start and report ready to the Service Control Manager. By editing or creating the ServicesPipeTimeout DWORD value, the Service Control Manager timeout period can be overridden, thereby giving the service more time to start up and report ready to the Service.
