I have tried everything that I can think of. I am trying to install Windows Defender on my PC on which I'm running Windows XP SP3. When the installation is trying to start the Windows Defender Service, I get a pop-up that says "Service 'Windows Defender' (WinDefend) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient priviledges to start system services. I am logged on as an Administrator to the PC. I disabled my Symantec Client Security, but that did not help. I ran Malwarebytes and it found a few things which I had it clean up. I have also tried install it on another computer with the same operating system, antivirus software and administrator priviledges with the exact same results. I see this in event viewer: Event Type: Error Event Source: MsiInstaller Event Category: None Event ID: 11920 Date: 6/26/2009 Time: 4:11:51 PM User: DRAKECC\SANDY Computer: SANDYMULLEN Description: Product: Windows Defender -- Error 1920.
