2048 Error Code
in response to 10nelyboi Hello,Your quicktime file could be corrupt and may require a repair.Error -2048 means "no movie found". It refers to the "movie atom" that describes the media data inside the file. Probably the moov atom is missing. You can try to preview the .mov file with this web app:http://mp4repair.org/preview.html'I may receive some form of compensation, financial or otherwise, from my recommendation or link.'Regards,BJ Helpful (0) Reply options Link to this post This site contains user submitted content, comments and opinions and is for informational purposes only. I have been recording with my GoPro camera and have never had a problem until now. I was recording on a race car and due to a collision the camera mount was error 2048 broken and the camera fell off the car, the camera is fine, works great still, records perfectly fine video files still on the same SD card. But the file that was recorded that night cannot be played in quicktime or windows media player due to the following errors: Quicktime: Error-2048 could not open the file because it is not a file that quicktime understands WMP: Encountered a problem while trying to play the file I assume these problems are because the file couldn't open the was never finalized by the camera i took the SD card to Best Buy (sorry ) and they told me that the file needed to be converted to a vidoe file (mpeg-4 is what the camera normally records the files in, so my attempts have been to convert to that) i downloaded VLC (suggested by best buy) and it will "open" the file but there is nothing to play, and when i attempt to convert the file it just creats a file that is 4KB big and thats it, doesn't give an errors or anything Please help! the file is there, it's 2GB in size and still shows as an MP4 file in folder view, and i'm told it still salvageable.... any ideas? let me know if you need more info and i'll see what i can get for you I'm semi computer literate but have never been real involved in any video editing really Thanks! Digital Video Software How to Fix QuickTime Error -2048 How to Fix QuickTime Error -2048 By Aaron Parson Tech Guru Aaron Parson Follow Pin Share Tweet Share Email Save To play MPEG-2 content using QuickTime for Windows, you need the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component, a commercial add-on. If you bought the component but receive error -2048 when trying to play a video, you need to update the add-on to the newest version. QuickTime for Mac OS X does not require the MPEG-2 component as long as you have OS X Lion or a newer version of the operating system. Updating the Playback Component After updating QuickTime for Windows to version 7.6 or later, you need to also update your QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component in order to avoid error -2048. Visit the "Your Account" page on the Apple Store (link in Resources), click "View Order History" and log in with your Apple ID. If you don't see your order listed, change the purchase period using the drop-down menu. Open the order to download the new version. If you bought the component several years ago and it no longer appears in your order history, contact Apple Support to receive the update. Applicable File Types Error -2048 occurs when QuickTime attempts to play video files that require the MPEG-2 component. Most MPEG-2 videos use the MPG or MPEG extension, but these extensions can also indicate other versions such as MPEG-1 that don't require the component. The component also allows you to play back non-encrypted DVDs, but not those with copy protection. All other types of files that open in QuickTime will continue to work without updating the MPEG-2 component.
