I downloaded Tomcat 7.0 windows installer and installed it using the default configuration. After installing, I typed localhost:8080 in my browser to see if Tomcat is working. However,it showed error message like this: Access Error: 404 -- Not Found Cannot locate document: / And there's nothing else show with Tomcat or Apache words in the http://stackoverflow.com/questions/21571239/http-localhost8080-access-error-404-not-found-cannot-locate-document page. It seems Tomcat not responding. I googled and searched this forum, but so far the solutions people provided didn't work for me. checked the server.xml file, 8080 is the HTTP connector port: Connector port="8080" protocol="HTTP/1.1" connectionTimeout="20000" redirectPort="8443" I did run the Tomcat7.exe in the \bin folder. Something run in the command window and disappeared then. Nothing changed then. I set some environment system variables like JAVA HOME, PATH, and CLASSPATH according to some tutorials online. Still not work. Only things I'm suspicious are: 1. I have two JRE folder: jre6 and jre7 in the program files directory. Tomcat7 chose the jre7 one. 2. I installed anyother server called Wamp server, which I used to learn some PHP programming with SQL usage. There's Apache in the package. Not sure if it's using 8080 port. Please help. I've already digged online more than 2hrs for this headache. Any comments are welcome. apache tomcat localhost share|improve this question asked Feb 5 '14 at 7:36 sunraincyq 1201111 1 Is there anything in the catalina.out log file located in TOMCAT_HOME/logs? –Will Keeling Feb 5 '14 at 11:05 Will, Yeah, there are already a lot of logs in this file. I searched 8080. 1. SEVERE: Failed to initialize

Need help >;( chris_fuel 2006-05-25 23:20:53 UTC #2 Did you try localhost/filename.php? briancastellanos 2006-05-25 23:24:11 UTC #3 XAMPP sets a default as Program Files/Xampp/Htdocs/xampp YOU ARE ALREADY IN HTDOCS.. try doing ahref=../ in your directory...see if that works, if not.. try editing your xampp.conf file. it is located in your xampp/apache foldermine is (C:/Program Files/Xampp/Apache/conf/extra/xampp.conf)(it might actually be xampp.htconf or something, but you'll see it..its the only http error 404 one with the xampp).. copy the PhpMyAdmin section, and paste it below. change the /phpmyadmin to /htdocs or whatever you want to beshown after http://localhost. Then you'll need to set up the doc root as well, this just tells apache where to serve the file from.. DONT SET UP as HTDOCS though because apache will go in a huge loop and consume all your CPU..i know i've tried. anyway, i have a couple set up.. my document root is soemthing like: c:/program files/xampp/htdocs/production/kreative so you will see my main site, but i have also set up/phpmyadmin/xampp/development(which goes to c:/program files/xampp/htdocs/xampp/development). Its nice if you add an .htacessfile to those directories you want to use(like for me the phpmyadmin etc...don't want my visitors using those). Hope this helps. briancastellanos 2006-05-25 23:29:52 UTC #4 Sorry that's a little messy... apache\extra\httpd-xampp.conf is the xampp configuration file. You can copy and paste to modify the entrys as you need. Don't forget to use the Xampp CP to restart apache. briancastellanos 2006-05-25 23:38:14 UTC #5 Did you understand? in apache/conf/httpd.conf there is a line that says document rootwhat ever you set this document root to will be the main directory of localhost.by default, xampp configures it to be /xampp/
