Each COM interface has an associated GUID that is called an interface ID (IID). Each coclass has an associated GUID that is called class ID (CLSID). When you compile an ActiveX component in Visual Basic, the CLSIDs and IIDs are compiled into the component's type library. Example A program that consists of a Visual Basic client and an ActiveX DLL is released to the user community. At a later time, additional functionality is to be added to the DLL component. The necessary modifications are made, and the ActiveX DLL is compiled without maintaining binary compatibility. When the DLL is released, the client that is trying to use the DLL will throw run t

In the an Access form I use the error 438 Browse button on the form to locate files to import into the program. This works well except for one customer that when they try to use the Browse button they get the error code 438 - - Object donesn't support this property or method. They can hand enter the path and it works for them but the button gives them the error. Below is the code for the button. On Error GoTo Err_BrowesBtn_Click Call getThisDir CmnDlg.initdir = ThisDir CmnDlg.FileName = "*.txt" CmnDlg.ShowOpen time error 438 If Len(CmnDlg.FileName) > 0 Then [DataDirectory] = CmnDlg.FileName End If Exit_BrowesBtn_Click: Exit Sub Err_BrowesBtn_Click: If Err.Number = 32755 Then 'msgBox Err.Description Resume Exit_BrowesBtn_Click Else MsgBox ("(Error Code: " & Err.Number & ") " & Err.Description) Resume Exit_BrowesBtn_Click End If End Sub 0 Question by:needhelpfast569 Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Google LVL 74 Best Solution byJeffrey Coachman Then this is indeed odd... The ComDlg.ocx file may be the problem. The install program updates that file and the Browse option worked on this computer last year. I'm thinking that registry may be corrupt. It recently started causing the following error: Run-time error '438' Object doesn't support this property or method People say that this error can be caused by the KB960715 security update being applied, which sets killbits on various ActiveX control methods which were deemed a security risk. But this or no other security update has been applied recently. Others say that installing Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 Service Pack 6 Cumulative Update will update the flex grid. This requires VB6 to be installed as a prerequisite so I installed that on my PC and then the update, and retrieved the updated MsFlxGrd.ocx file(Version: 6.1.98.12) and copied to the application machine, but the error still prevails. Someone here says you can disable the killbit in the registry. But there are afew hundred nodes in the location they suggest, none of which has the same guid as the one they point out. Any ideas? ms-access vb6 msflexgrid share|improve this question edited May 5 '15 at 16:28 JasonMArcher 6,25183744 asked May 4 '10 at 16:39 Dan 14.3k37120181 1 I know you didn't do it, but using an outside data grid control in an Access app indicates that the orginal developer was basically not really competent as an Access developer. Access doesn't need a non-native data grid because it's own datasheets and continuous forms provide all the flexibility you need, and are fully bound. –David-W-Fenton May 7 '10 at 1:33 @David That is interesting to know. I'm not an Access Developer myself, so was hoping I could just apply a band-aid solution. But I guess if all else fails I can look into removing the flex grid. –Dan May 7 '10 at 8:54 1 My gues
