Thanks! ;o) emaya77 Member Posted 7 years ago # Btw...when on the previous page (the page where you install wordpress mu), this warning is listed in the instructions: "Warning! It looks like mod_rewrite is http://stackoverflow.com/questions/8782568/htaccess-server-error not installed. If the mod_rewrite module is disabled ask your administrator to enable that module, or look at the Apache documentation or elsewhere for help setting it up." Also, should i leave the database host as: localhost? Or should it be "localhost.localdomain" which is what is in the field by default for the Server Address. And for the database, I've aned it 'wpmu', the username is "root", and I've left the pw https://mu.wordpress.org/forums/topic/14627 field blank. SteveAtty Member Posted 7 years ago # You'll need to turn mod_rewrite on in your apache config for WPMU to work properly. leave the db host as localhost. DONT use root/{null} as your logon credentials, create a specific user which only has the required rights on the wpmu database. emaya77 Member Posted 7 years ago # Thanks, SteveAtty! I apologize for being so clueless here...but: Is there a certain place in the apache config file that I should add "RewriteEngine On"? And do I need "#" or anything before it? As far as the login credentials, should I just make up ANY UN and PW? Do I then need to add this info anywhere else? Thanks again! SteveAtty Member Posted 7 years ago # You can use any username and password, you need to create it in mysql and then grant it the necessary permission on the database. I cant remember where to edit the main apache config to enable mod_rewrite, on my server. I'm using apache2 and I use a2enmode, a2ensite, etc to change my configuration. tim.moore Member Posted 7 years ago # Emaya, Assuming you are running Linux, in your apache installation, you should have two folders: one labeled mods_available and the other mods_enabled. I've installed XAMPP in c:/xampp, and wrote a error 500 very simple php file that just displays a line of text. I can't seem to get this file to display in /localhost/ environment. When I run it on my remote host, it runs fine, but I want to use my localhost location, of course. These are the folder structures: C:/xammp/htdocs/webd/error.php I'm loading the file in IE10 using: http://localhost/webd/error.php error in a I get the following: Server error! The server encountered an internal error and was unable to complete your request. Either the server is overloaded or there was an error in a CGI script. If you think this is a server error, please contact the webmaster. Error 500 localhost Apache/2.4.4 (Win32) OpenSSL/0.9.8y PHP/5.4.19 I verified my Apache module is turned on and running in the XAMPP control panel (v3.2.1). I can't get any php page to run on my localhost so whatever I'm doing it's global, I figureI installed xammp incorrectly or I'm not loading the file right. I tried using variations like http://localhost/htdocs/webd/error.php, and even tried changing the filename to an html extension and tested it by opening it using C:/xampp/htdocs/webd/error.html and the file displays, so it's there, and I don't have some weird folder issue (as far as I can tell). I'm pretty sure this is a basic issue, something that I'm doing or did that was dumb or I'm just being dense for some reason. Any help out there? Back to top #2 ZandarGlass ZandarGlass Membe

This is the drive all the websites are stored on.You can, but then you have to define access rules for the directory too, because it is outside of the by default configurated base directory \xampp\htdocs\so, it can look something like this:Code: Select all
DocumentRoot "C:/xampp/htdocs"
ServerName localhost
DocumentRoot "D:/kim"
ServerName kim

AllowOverride All

DocumentRoot "D:/tc"
