SERVER - FIX – Linked Server Error 7399 Invalid authorization specification June 11, 2016Pinal DaveSQL1 commentI have personally seen when people use Linked Server there are a number of issues from authentication to performance. These issues are part of working with something that has so many variations error 7399 sqlncli and permutations of actually going wrong. Many a times I suggest people to keep

away from it as much as possible. But it cannot happen all the times and there are code blocks in their application that

relies on this as a requirement. This is one of the common error I see in various forums. When someone is new to SQL Server and tried to create a linked server, he/she would just give server https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/296711 name and choose SQL Server as server type and hit OK. But SSMS would provide below errorTITLE: Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio -------------------- The linked server has been created but failed a connection test. Once we click on Test Connection as shown below – we would get same error what we got during creation. To fix this problem, we need to understand little about connectivity and authentication. Whenever we connect to SQL, there are two waysSQL Authentication: To use this, we need to provide login name and password while connecting to SQL Server. These account are stored within SQL Server.Windows Authentication: While using Windows operating system, we can use logged in account to SQL and it would allow us to connect to SQL Server without providing password because we have already logged into operating system and have been authenticated by Windows. When the linked server is created, the default values under security is “Be made with

I have just upgraded to a new server running Microsoft Windows 2008 R2 Server, MS SQL Server 2008and Pervasive SQL v11. Queries succeed. The first update in my program error 7399 gives the following error message: Msg 7399, Level 16, State 1, Line 1The OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "sunclasssonnevijver" reported an error. The provider reported an unexpected catastrophic failure. I have played around with the logon properties of the SQL Server Service (Built-in account: Local system and various other local and domain accounts), without success. Does anybody know a way to get over this barrier? Does it return an error? Just to be clear, the PSQL server engine, MS SQL server engine, and PSQL data files are all on the same machine. Correct? 08-17-2012 3:21 AM In reply to Han Schouten Joined on 04-25-2009 Posts 9 Re: SQL Server error 7399 when linking to remote Pervasive SQL v11 database Reply Contact Thanks for your prompt reaction! Indeed, all MS SQL and PSQL files reside on one 64 bit server, called WIN11. Initially, I have been confused about which ODBC administrator to use: the one in system 32, or the one in SysWOW64. I have defined all ODBC system DSN's on this server, using %windir%\system32\odbcad32.exe with the following parameters: Data Source Name: sunclasssonnevijver, ...Description: Pervasive ODBC InterfaceServer Name / IP: WIN11Transport Hint: Try TCP/IP first, then SPXDatabase Name: SUNCLASSSONNEVIJVER, ...
