0 Sign in to vote I'm not sure what happened, but all of a sudden my SQL Server Agent service won't start. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/955763 When I try to start it, I get the following error in the event logs: "SQLServerAgent could not be started. Error creating a new session". When I look in the Agent log file, i see the following: Execute permission denied on object https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sqlserver/en-US/4af4cd69-28c5-4a54-b17c-a551d9efffff/sql-server-agent-cant-create-a-new-session?forum=sqldatabaseengine sp_sqlagent_has_server_access Execute permission denied on object sp_sqlagent_get_startup_info Insert permission denied on object syssession What happened? Thanks... Thursday, June 07, 2007 7:24 PM Reply | Quote All replies 1 Sign in to vote Most likely some changes in permissions for the SQL Agent security context. You'd want to look at the account that the SQL Agent service runs under. Is that account a member of the sysadmins server role? -Sue Friday, June 08, 2007 5:26 AM Reply | Quote Microsoft is conducting an online survey to understand your opinion of the Msdn Web site. SQLServerAgent could not be started (reason: Error creating a new session). This was strange , as there were three SQLServer Agent services on this server – all using the same service account username and password. Two started OK. But the third generated the error message After some trial and error , I decided to complete the following steps , which fixed the problem : 1) Switched the account in windows services to a local system account. 2) Started SQL Agent - OK 3) Stopped SQL Agent - OK 4) Changed the service account back to the service account in windows services 5) Started Agent. - OK A strange error and I still haven’t understood the root cause. I assumed it would be changes in permissions on the SQL Agent security context and I did look at the account . The account was under the correct group with the correct privileges.
