apps, expiring signing certificates, and the developer Is the app timestamped? Here is the important bit about http://kb.imakewebsites.ca/2015/01/06/adobe-air-desktop-apps-expiring-signing-certificates-and-the-developer/ timestamping from Adobe's ‘Digitally signing an AIR file' documentation When you sign an AIR file, the packaging tool queries the server of a timestamp authority to obtain an independently verifiable https://www.bouncycastle.org/releasenotes.html date and time of signing. The time stamp obtained is embedded in the AIR file. As long as the signing certificate is valid at the time of signing, the error creating AIR file can be installed, even after the certificate has expired. On the other hand, if no time stamp is obtained, the AIR file ceases to be installable when the certificate expires or is revoked. Download the .air file Change extension to .zip Extract or browse the contents of the .zip file Open META-INF/signatures.xml Look for a SignatureTimeStamp element. If error creating air it is there, the AIR app is timestamped The app I'm working with is timestamped, so it can be installed indefinitely. But what about updates? Expired certificates and app updates Here's another important bit from Adobe's documentation As of AIR 1.5.3, a certificate that has expired within the last 180 days can still be used to apply a migration signature to an application update. To take advantage of this grace period, and the update application descriptor must specify 1.5.3 in the namespace attribute. After the grace period, the certificate can no longer be used. Users updating to a new version of your application will have to uninstall their existing version. Note that there is no grace period in AIR versions before 1.5.3. If an app uses AIR 1.5.3 or newer, the developer has 180 days past certificate expiry date to migrate to a new certificate. Time to find expiry the date! Checking when a signing certificate expires Assuming you have access to the .p12 version of the certificate and the password, you can follow these inst
a Java implementation of cryptographic algorithms. The package is organised so that it contains a light-weight API suitable for use in any environment (including the J2ME) with the additional infrastructure to conform the algorithms to the JCE framework. 2.0 Release History 2.1.1 Version Release: 1.55 Date: 2016, August 18 2.1.2 Defects Fixed Issues with cloning of blake digests with salts and personalisation strings have been fixed. The JceAsymmetricValueDecryptor in the CRMF package now attempts to recognise a wider range of parameters for the key wrapping algorithm, rather than relying on a default. GCM now fails if an attempt is made to go past 2^32-1 blocks. (r, k) ordering for Poly1305 has been modified to be brought into line with RFC 7539. An occasional error in Poly1305 due to sign-extension has been fixed. TimeStampRequest was always failing to validate if extensions were present. This has been fixed. ECIES/IES algorithm parameters encoding failed on default parameters. This has been fixed. PGPObjectFactory.iterator() could fail when called on data with multiple stream packets. This has been fixed. The McEliece implementation in the BCPQC provider has been revised and now has working key factories associated with it. The X.509 UserNotice class can now cope with empty sequences. Creation of multiple providers concurrently could cause issues with a non-synchronized Map in the provider. Code is now synchronized. If the lightweight OAEP encoder is fed oversized input it will now throw something more informative than an ArrayOutOfBoundsException or simply truncate. Attempting to use the PasswordRecipientInfoGenerator without explicitly setting the salt would cause a NullPointerException. This has been fixed. The BasicConstraintsValidation in the CertPath API would throw a NullPointerException on an unconstrained path length. This has been fix
