Error Creating Control - ComboBox1 Unknown server tag 'asp:ComboBox'. I encountered this error, very annoying becasueit would shut off design view rendering ofComboBoxes as well as entire parent containers like ListViews. It took me a lot of efforts to hunt down the cause, which would seem very illogical if not weird. So I am suspecting that it is just happening to me, but error creating control telerik would appreciate if somebody could care to reproduce and see if it is actually a bug. And I found a solution that worked for me, but it might not be readily available to fix for everyone, I'll explain. I've attached two screenshots, a before and after that displays my Visual Studio 2010 Design Views with the errors and the fixed result. The part that helped me figure it out was with the RadScheduler. It displayed a much more helpful message that helped me find the solution. If you notice in the "error" screen shot the RadTreeView and RadMenu controls do not display anything but the error message. But when I dragged a RadScheduler on the page, it displayed amuch more helpful message. Since I had just upgraded my ASP.NET AJAX controls to the latest version yesterday, the local cached version was still the prior version. This is what caused the errors. So here's what I did: Close Visual Studio Navigate to the location of the older Telerik assembly Delete it Open Visual Studio - and everything works! If you don't see a message that shows the path of the problem assembly, try dragging a RadScheduler onto the page to see if that shows the details paths. Edit - 1/23/2012 This problem seemed to persist in later days, and I finally found a good work around. Also, I seem to be having a problem when adding controls within Ajax controls. If you want to drag and drop controls from the toolbox, try dragging them into your source view. My suggestion would be to just get accustomed to working in the source, and forgo working with the designer - it tends to be slow and a bit unreliable. share|improve this answer answered Apr 6 '09 at 20:55 Bayard Randel 7,12323142 add a comment| up vote 3 down vote if you get the error in designer mode: "Error Creating Control; Unknown Control 'asp:TabContainer etc' then the problem is a corrupt Asp.net Temporary Filesystem; Close Visual Studio developer; To correct, go to the "C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\Temporary ASP.NET Files" depending on the framework you are using and delete the contents of this folder.
