Before you change property values, you should view the current property settings. To view configuration properties related to the idmap service, run one of the following commands:# svccfg -s idmap listprop "config/*"# svcprop -p config svc:/system/idmapTo view all properties related to the idmap service, run one of the following commands:# svccfg -s idmap listprop# svcprop svc:/system/idmapSaving and Restoring Name-Based Mapping RulesYou might need to back up and restore your name-based mapping rules. For more information about the idmap export, idmap import, and idmap list commands, see the idmap(1M) man page.To back up the rules, perform the following steps:Save your name-based mapping rules in one of the following ways:Export the rules. # idmap export -f output-file formatList the rules. # idmap list >output-fileDisable the idmap service. # svcadm disable idmapRemove the idmap.db databases. # rm /var/idmap/idmap.db /var/run/idmap/idmap.dbReboot the system. To restore the rules, use the mapping rule output you saved during the backup procedure. Do one of the following to restore based on your backup method:Use the idmap import command. # idmap import -f input-file formatUse the idmap list command. Run output-file as a shell script. # sh ./output-fileViewing Details About MappingsIf you encounter unexpected mapping results, use the idmap dump and idmap show commands to gather data. seems to lie elsewhere :) mount tells me the following: /var/run on swap read/write/setuid/devices/xattr/dev=4cc0003 on Sun Mar 2 17:57:25 2008 and df -h this: swap 941M 36K 941M 1% /var/run Running idmap with -d as root tells me: idmapd: Initial configuration loaded Error creating database /var/run/idmap/idmap.db (unable to open database: /var/run/idmap/idmap.db) Error creating database /var/run/idmap/idmap.db (unable to open database: /var/run/idmap/idmap.db) Error creating database /var/run/idmap/idmap.db (unable to open database: /var/run/idmap/idmap.db) Failed to initialize db /var/run/idmap/idmap.db idmapd: unable to initialize mapping system Or are there any other limits? Free main memory lies between http://wiki.illumos.org/display/illumos/Identity+Mapping+Troubleshooting 40 and 80 Mbytes. I don't want to make more trouble than its worth. It is just a home server happily streaming music in the house. But I find the prospect of using smb very interesting. It will be no problem to wait for another build to fix this, but I'm happy to hear more suggestions. I administer a few http://osdir.com/ml/os.solaris.opensolaris.storage.general/2008-03/msg00020.html linux servers at work but I'm starting to love some of the solaris features more and more. You could use a thumper with ZFS, for example. -- mark Patrick Giagnocavo wrote: > Does the current code that is released, consisting of the emulator, some > sample apps, and the SDK, comprise everything that will be released? > > Or, will Sun release the code that actually lets you run a "clone" of a 5800 > by buying 8 or so Opteron systems and networking them together with Gigabit > switches? > > > This message posted from opensolaris.org > _______________________________________________ > storage-discuss mailing list > storage-discuss-xZgeD5Kw2fzokhkdeNNY6A@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx > http://mail.opensolaris.org/mailman/listinfo/storage-discuss > Next Message by Date: Re: b81 very slow CIFS w/ zfs Hope I'm not annoying everyone by bumping this to the top again, but I'm inclined

Is it my upgrade skipping 20 builds? No. idmap was not in build 62. > I've already tried error creating to set 777 to the above directory but that didn't > change a thing. /var/run/idmap is created when idmapd starts, before it drops privileges. Is /var/run mounted (from tmpfs)? What are the permissions on /var/run? Was the system low on memory (or the tmpfs size limit exceeded)? If you run "/usr/lib/idmapd -d" by hand as root, what happens? Are you intending to share things with SMB? If so then error creating database I recommend pulling in fixes to idmapd from build 85.
