Now from what I've read it appears that I need to create a TNSNAMES.ORA file in my C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\client_1\NETWORK\ADMIN folder and place the relevant information in there. I've placed the following in my file SPEC1= (DESCRIPTION = (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP) (HOST = XXX.XXX.XXX.XX) (PORT = 1521) ) (CONNECT_DATA = (SERVICE_NAME = SPEC1) ) ) Now to test it I've tried calling: tnsping SPEC1 but this returns the error: TNS-0305: Failed to resolve name I've googled this error and tried the advice but I can't seem to get to the bottom of it. Am I missing something in the code above? (the tnsping command above looks up a sqlnet.ora file which is in the same folder as the TNSNAMES.ORA file and which references it) Edit: ok it turns out that I didn't have the full name in the service_name in my tnsnames.ora file and that was the root of my problem. oracle share|improve this question edited Feb 20 '13 at 9:53 asked Feb 19 '13 at 13:33 Sperick 1,28731736 have you started the service using lsnrctl ? –Satya Feb 19 '13 at 13:39 @Satya No, I don't know what that is –Sperick Feb 19 '13 at 13:44 go to command prompt and type lsnrctl SPEC1 START and let me know the output –Satya Feb 19 '13 at 13:45 'lsnrctl' is not recognizable as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. –Sperick Feb 19 '13 at 13:50 1 I would guess the databas
TCP stack in Windows. Simply clearing the stack is sufficient to resolve this issue most times. Instructions for doing this are below: First, I need you to go into your network connections, and locate the connection you connect to the internet with (LAN, wifi). Once you locate it, go into it's properties, and on the General tab, select "IPv4" and go into it's properties. Here, make sure that IP address is set http://stackoverflow.com/questions/14958837/error-creating-tns-entry-for-oracle to Obtain Automatically, and apply all the changes. After this, connect to the VPN again, and go back into network connections; you should see a new connection, which is the VPN tunnel. Do the same thing with it; go into it's properties, find IPv4, go into it's properties, and make sure that IP address is set to https://helpdesk.privateinternetaccess.com/hc/en-us/articles/219459287-I-am-seeing-the-error-Create-IP-forward-entry-error-in-my-debug-log automatically obtain, and apply the changes. At this point, open the Device Manager. In there, expand the Network Adapters list, and choose the adapter you use to connect to the internet (again, LAN or wifi). Right-click on it, and choose Disable, and once it's disabled, right-click again and choose Enable; this should refresh the TCP bindings to it. Afterwards, go to Start -> Programs -> Accessories, right-click on Command Prompt, and choose Run as Administrator. In the black Command Prompt window, type the following commands, hitting enter after each line: netsh dump netsh int ip reset log.txt netsh winsock reset ipconfig /flushdns exit Once the Command Prompt window closes, power down your computer, wait 60 seconds, power it back up, and try your VPN connection again. If your issues persist, please feel free to contact support at any time by submitting a ticket, and we will respond as soon as possible.
