I'm getting an error message on a few PCs. Making the user a local admin sorts it out, but is there another way? For security reasons we don't want to make everyone a local admin. We've added a logon script to Group Policy, the script works perfectly on those PCs whose users are local admins but it brings up an error message on non-local admin users' PCs: "Error creating the output bitmap file: C:\windows\bginfo.bmp: Access is denied. Please ensure the path exists and you have permissions to write it. You can select a different output path for the bitmap using the bitmap location menu item". Some users have personalised their desktops and we don't want to remove those rights, so we can't "force" a particular bitmap on them by putting the bitmap on a share accessible by everyone and forcing them to use it. In short, we want everyone to be able to keep their current wallpaper, be they local admin or not. Everyone's wallpaper will be stored on their local drive (C:\Windows). But we want the BGInfo information about the PC displayed too. Any ideas, folks? We have an Enterprise Agreement with MS, by the way, if that's of any relevance to anyone. As far as I'm aware we're good to use it as stated above. Thanks for any assistance Stephen Spin Members Profile Send Private Message Find Members Posts Add to Buddy List Newbie Joined: 10 January 2008 Location: United Kingdom Status: Offline Points: 1 Post Options Post Reply QuoteSpin Report Post Thanks(0) QuoteReply Posted: 07 February 2008 at 3:49am These users are trying to access the c:\windows folder and they dont have the rights. tryuseing network drive were your users have rights.and push it out on a login scrpit some like this \\****\Somefolder$\Bginfo.exe /iq\\****\Somefolder$\Temp.bgi /accepteula /timer:00 mully Members Profile Send Private Message Find Members Posts Add to Buddy List Newbie Joined: 19 June 2007 Status: Offline Points: 5 Post Options Post Reply Quotemully Report Post Thanks(0) QuoteReply Posted: 07 February 2008 at 1:50pm Spin

I need to take away administrator and power user http://forum.sysinternals.com/bginfobmp-access-denied_topic13474.html access to all users. Is there a way to force the user's default background to a black screen and use bginfo in white color without having these permissions? I can probably force a background using GPO. I guess the reason for this question is because I do not know what perms users need to have to change the background. Here is the sample of my bginfo script. Please Ensure the path exists and you have permission to write it. You can select a different output path for the bimap using the bitmap|location menu item. (When I select a different location it throws the same error) 0 Message Author Comment by:oriontech22007-10-10 Ok, so now when I save the bitmap I am putting it in c:\bginfo\bginfo.bmp and it is working I just want to make sure that it will work for all users regardless of permissions. 0 LVL 12 Overall: Level 12 Windows OS 1 OS Security 1 MS Forefront-ISA 1 M

However we are http://www.techexams.net/forums/off-topic/39921-bginfo-problem.html having a really strange / annoying issue with BGinfo. Basically it only works for the domain admin account, or for a user who has local admin right on their client machine. We have the GPO set correctly and have checked settings with another domain we manage. We have also checked the bginfo.vbs file and all is fine there ( it has to be because it works, albeit with admin rights). When logging onto a client machine with a normal error creating user, the background doesnt display but when running GPresult, the policy is being applied so to speak. As soon as you grant local admin rights and log out and back in, it appears. We have never had this trouble before - Can anyone shed any light on this or anyone had this issue before? I would have thought this is to do with permissions somewhere but have checked. Ive even granted domain users access to the netlogon share and error creating the tried. My virtual machines on my laptop at home also do the same thing? What switches are you using? I believe some only work as an admin. Edit: It looks like the /all switch is what does it. Last edited by dynamik; 02-01-2009 at 02:10 PM. I havent got the /all switch, would i just pop it after the /silent? Set objShell = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell") '-------- DEFINE THE PROGRAM FILE LOCATION --------- strExecuteFile = "\\my
