Friday, January 13, 2006 1:25 PM Reply | Quote 0 Sign in to vote I think your system will probably run out of window handles then. Why do you need this many controls? To keep resource usage down I think you would do well to try to lower your control count. Are youusing a grid-like control with child controls in its

Here are steps to reproduce the exception: 1. Drag-n-drop a TextBox on a form. Add any https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/3fb91a63-a86a-4817-9c3a-5b2f2443926f/error-creating-window-handle?forum=winforms other focusable control such as a button on the form. 2. Add 2 event handlers for that TextBox as follow: private void textBox_GotFocus(object sender, EventArgs e){ ((TextBox)sender).HideSelection = false; //<-- exception highlighted at here. } private void textBox_LostFocus(object sender, EventArgs e){ ((TextBox)sender).HideSelection = true; } 3. Run the form and first click on the textBox, then click on the button then click on the textBox again -> the exception will throw: Win32Exception - error creating window handle. The code is simply http://stackoverflow.com/questions/16955270/win32exception-error-creating-window-handle to make the HideSelection change accordingly when the textBox gets focused and loses focus. Your help would be highly appreciated! In fact this is discovered by chance, I don't work on any project with this. So it's not urgent. :) UPDATE I don't know why is so volatile, I created another project and now the problem is different, there is no exception but an indefinite loop which makes the textbox flicker, the form doesn't seem to responsive, the CPU usage is consumed up to about 17-20%. The last demo is still opened and that demo still has the Win32Exception thrown. Not a clue at all. Now the code of the two projects are the same but the problems are different. c# winforms events textbox focus share|improve this question edited Jun 6 '13 at 7:34 asked Jun 6 '13 at 6:36 King King 39.2k64976 Are using a 3rd party textbox control with GotFocus and LostFocus events? –Jeremy Thompson Jun 6 '13 at 7:10 @Jeremy Thopmson These events do exist for the TextBox control, just are not available in the designer ;-) –EtherealMonkey Jun 6 '13 at 7:19 @King King, the TextBox is redrawn multiple times before the form is shown. That is the first thing that I addressed when trying to diagnose your problem - I set a bool flag inside the Form_Shown() event handler and then used it to prevent the infinite loop on

Here's the exception stack: System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception: Error creating window handle. at System.Windows.Forms.NativeWindow.CreateHandle(CreateParams cp) at System.Windows.Forms.Control.CreateHandle() at System.Windows.Forms.ComboBox.CreateHandle() at System.Windows.Forms.Control.CreateControl(Boolean fIgnoreVisible) at System.Windows.Forms.Control.CreateControl() at System.Windows.Forms.Control.ControlCollection.Add(Control value) at System.Windows.Forms.WindowsFormsUtils.ReadOnlyControlCollection.AddInternal(Control value) at System.Windows.Forms.ToolStripControlHost.SyncControlParent() at System.Windows.Forms.ToolStripControlHost.OnParentChanged(ToolStrip oldParent, ToolStrip newParent) at System.Windows.Forms.ToolStripItem.set_ParentInternal(ToolStrip value) at System.Windows.Forms.ToolStripSplitStackLayout.LayoutHorizontal() at System.Windows.Forms.ToolStripSplitStackLayout.LayoutCore(IArrangedElement container, LayoutEventArgs layoutEventArgs) at System.Windows.Forms.Layout.LayoutEngine.Layout(Object container, LayoutEventArgs layoutEventArgs) at System.Win
Guest I have two different applications, one a server app and the other is the client for the server, that are having a new and strange problem. Both applications have been working for months. When the applications are minimized, I set ShowInTaskbar to false. When the NotifyIcon is clicked, I set ShowInTaskbar to true and set the WindowState to FormWindowState.Normal. This has worked for months on several clients and the server. Now, when installing the applications on new clients, and on a new server, I intermittently get a Win32Exception: "Error creating window handle" when double clicking the NotifyIcon. The only statements in notifyIconDoubleClick are: this.ShowInTaskbar = true; this.WindowState = FormWindowState.Normal this.Activate(); In debug mode, execution stops on the second statement. I just don't understand how it can fail to create a window. Technically, the window object is already created, isn't it? If I never change ShowInTaskbar to false, the form will minimize and restore ok. Searching MSDN for "Error creating window handle" returns 0 results. Has anyone seen this problem and come up with a cause? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
