setup Quicktime - Unable to Unistall to i can install Itunes 7.6 Quicktime - Unable to Unistall to i can install Itunes 7.6 New 26 Jul 2008 #1 Dreyday8 Guest Quicktime - Unable to Unistall to i can install Itunes 7.6 I just received and iPod. But it requires that I run ITunes 7.6 or higher. The problem is when I tried to install the 7.6 or 7.7 for that matter, I get this error that says, “ A newer version of QuickTime is already installed. This installation cannot proceed while the newer version of QuickTime in https://www.cnet.com/news/itunes-7-6-1-problems-installing-no-sound-apple-tv-issues/ installed”. So I uninstalled the QuickTime, and still get the error. I also did regedit, and search for all QuickTime references and delete them and when I go to reinstall the ITunes I still get this error. I have been doing this process for the past 4 hours and can get past the error. Any advice? All I got was an error message that I need iTunes 7.6.2. Naturally this is ridiculous because I'm running error installing iTunes 10! Searching Fox's various websites and their FAQ revealed nothing helpful! It was not until I checked Apple's support site that I realized that the solution was simple. All I needed to do was to launch iTunes First! Once iTunes is running then I inserted the Digital Copy disc; iTunes mounted the disc in the left hand column (where your iPod or iPhone would show up), when I clicked on the error installing itunes icon for the disc a window appeared asking me for the serial number (usually in the disc's case), I entered the number the installation process proceeded automatically without any more effort. I clicked the little triangle next to the movie title to eject the disc. Easy Peasy. Questions, comments or feedback welcome. You can read more about it in this blog posting. *********************** For those of you who have deployed Apple iTunes 9 or Apple QuickTime 7.6.4 and received the "Please Install Apple Application Support", we have found a workaround that fixes this. Installing the Apple Application Support part of the product on affected machines will result in a working program. (AppleApplicationSupport.msi) You can get the AppleApplicationSupport.msi by either: a) Run a compression program such as WinRAR against the installer, extract AppleApplicationSupport.msi -or- b) Run the install application and leave the program idle at its menus. Navigate to your temporary director and look for a folder named IXPxxx.tmp (xxx is a random number). The MSI program will be located in that folder. Please note: You must leave the installer running. If you close the installer, it will delete the temporary directory. Holding out hope that Apple addresses this issue is getting slim. Apple released iTunes version 9.0.1 yesterday. This version also fails for the same reason when using a silent deployment switch. Oh, and we had a follow up conversation with Apple. They are now claiming that installing via a silent switch is not supported. It does, and it did. At least they did not hang up on us this time.
