Any reason for installing this old unsupported version? I guess it is also the reason for the failure as the files on the internet are unavailable now. –gertvdijk Dec 27 '12 at 18:49 @gertvdijk Yes, that is the cause. There is still a bug to be reported, though, even though fundamentally the issue here is not a bug. See my answer for details. –Eliah Kagan Dec 27 '12 at 20:00 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest

I also have windows in my machine. Today I wanted to try 11.04 and created a USB disk. After using the live disk I set to install 11.04 via the steps below: 1. Removed the 10.04 partition via Windows 7 2. Recovered Windows 7 just to make sure I have atleast one OS running. 3. Used the USB disk to install 11.04. 4. I tried to set up manual partition with swap space and a ect4 drive for "/". 5. I also tried the default partition option to install along side Windows 7 in the 11.04 installer. I get the following error: “Error: Error informing the kernel about modifications to partition /dev/

For starters, you have far less than the 512MB RAM that is recommended as the minimum requirement. Even if you could install it would be a real dog. You may be

When I tried to install Ubuntu 11.04 from Desktop CD, the installer crashed while copying the files. The error message suggested to send an error report to you with the files >>/var/log/syslog<< and >>/var/log/partman<<. Then, this window appeared: >>The installer encountered an unrecoverable error. A desktop session will now be run so that you may investigate the problem or try installing again.<< I have tried to install Ubuntu 11.04 again, the same result. Do you want to use 11.04 to avoid Unity and if yes why? (Performance, incompatibility, not user friendly...) 2. Did you remove 12.04 (format) before installing 11.04? 3. Did you try or does your hardware support installing from a Live USB (installing the 11.04 image to a flash drive)? 4. Did you try another CD/DVD image just in case the image is damaged? Nele Noack (n-s-n) wrote on 2012-09-10: #4 Hi Luis! 1. Yes, I want to remove Unity from the pc of my sister because she uses at school 11.04 and wants the same at home. I don't know exactly why. 2. No, I didn't. There was an option to exchange 12.04 for 11.04 and I chose it. 3. I haven't tried it yet. And I don't know, if it is possible, I only used the CD. Shall I try it out? 4. No, I didn't. But I am sure, that it is undamaged because befor me, a friend used it and it worked. See full activity log To post a comment you must log in.
