using VirtualBox on Mac OS X hosts. Post a reply 9 posts • Page 1 of 1 Reply with quote fatal error installing Windows XP on 10.5.2 host by csheffield » 5. Mar 2008, 01:20 Forgive me if this topic has been covered. Haven't found it anywhere though. When going through a https://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?t=4985 Windows XP sp2 installation on a Mac OS X 10.5.2 host, I'm getting a fatal error form the Windows setup that I can't figure out. The error says, "Fatal error: One of the components that Windows needs to continue setup could not be installed. http://blog.parallels.com/2015/11/03/windows-10-in-parallels-desktop-11/ The parameter is incorrect." That's all it tells me. Doesn't say which component is being installed. At first I thought it was some setting I had set that maybe was not fully supported yet. So I deleted my vm and hard drive image error installing and started from scratch, using nothing but the default settings, except to automatically capture the CD drive. Still getting the same error. I haven't tried with any other versions of Windows yet. This is my first attempt. Am I doing something wrong? Host machine is a 20" alum iMac. All the latest software updates are installed. I opened a command prompt by pressing Shift-F10 in the XP installer and changed directories to d:\i386\asms. All looked well. At this point I suspected a scratched disc or some media problem so I burned a fresh copy of the disc. This is a volume license copy of XP SP2. This also failed with the same error. I then took the ISO of the XP SP2 disc that I had just burned and mounted it as a CD. I tried the install again and this time it went through just fine, so it seemed to have a problem with the volume license (not sure if that is relevant) XP cd. It
