You can install these resources manually if you wish. From MSDN: To install .NET Compact Framework resource files Verify if the .NET Compact Framework 2.0 Service Pack 2 or later is installed on your computer. If installed, proceed to Step 3. Download and install the .NET Compact Framework 2.0 Service Pack 2 on your computer. The setup file for the .NET Compact Framework 2.0 Service Pack 2 can be found here. On a button click i tried to create an error DivisonByZero and the exception message is displayed correctly. However, if an error occured in a method in the same form called from same button the exception message is "An error message cannot be displayed because an optional resource assembly containing it cannot be found". The method in question just captures the exception and rethrows like this catch (Exception) { throw; } This is also how my web service handles its exceptions which is incorrect I believe.
