File not found The file concerned may have been damaged, moved, deleted, or a bug may have caused the error. Alternatively, the file simply might not exist, or the user has mistyped its name. More frequent on command line interfaces than on graphical user interfaces where files are presented iconically and users do not type file names. Low Disk Space This error occurs when the hard drive is (nearly) full. To fix this, the user should close some programs (to free swap file usage) and delete some files (normally temporary files, or other files after they have been backed up), or get a bigger hard drive. Out of memory This error occurs when the system has run out of memory or tries to load a file too large to store in RAM. The fix is to close some programs, or install more memory. I would like to change it universally to something like: Maximum length is {StringLength}. I'd like to avoid redundantly specifying the ErrorMessage for every string I declare: [StringLength(20, ErrorMessage="Maximum length is 20")] public string OfficePhone { get; set; } [StringLength(20, ErrorMessage="Maximum length is 20")] public string http://stackoverflow.com/questions/9540314/modify-default-errormessage-for-stringlength-validation CellPhone { get; set; } I'm pretty sure I remember there being a simple way to universally change the ErrorMessage but cannot recall it. EDIT: For the sake of clarification, I'm trying to universally change the default ErrorMessage so that I can input: [StringLength(20)] public string OfficePhone { get; set; } and have the error message say: Maximum length is 20. asp.net-mvc-3 validation entity-framework-4 share|improve this question edited Mar 2 '12 at 21:36 asked Mar 2 '12 at 21:01 snumpy 1,39921330 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 37 down vote accepted You can specify the StringLength attribute as follows on numerous properties [StringLength(20, ErrorMessageResourceName = "StringLengthMessage", ErrorMessageResourceType = typeof(Resource))] public string OfficePhone { get; set; } [StringLength(20, ErrorMessageResourceName = "StringLengthMessage", ErrorMessageResourceType = typeof(Resource))] public string CellPhone { get; set; } and add the string resource (named StringLengthMessage) in your resource file "Maximum length is {1}" Message is defined once and has a variable place holder should you change your mind regarding the length to test against. You can specify the following: {0} - Name {1} - Maximum Length {2} - Minimum Length Update To minimize duplication even further you can subclass StringLengthAttribute: public class MyStringLengthAttribute : StringLengthAttribute { public MyStringLengthAttribute() : this(20) { }
ReportCustomizing a Default Error Message Note – To add https://docs.oracle.com/cd/E19225-01/820-7976/ahyis/index.html message catalog entries or to modify entries provided with the system, you must create a customized message catalog. See Chapter 9, Customizing Message Catalogs, in Oracle Waveset 8.1.1 Deployment Guide for instructions. Waveset’s default error messages are stored in error message a WPMessages.properties file in the idmcommon.jar file and in an RAMessages.properties file in the idmadapter.jar. The WPMessages.properties file is located in project_directory/waveset/idm/common/src/com/waveset/msgcat The RAMessages.properties file is located in project_directory/waveset/idm/adapter/src/com/waveset/adapter The Waveset Service Provider’s default error messages are located in the default error message IDMXMessages.properties file. You can customize these default error messages by modifying attributes in the ErrorUIConfig object provided with that message. To Modify the ErrorUIConfig Object: Log in to Waveset Administrator interface. Open the System Settings page by typing http:// host:port/idm/debug in to your browser.
