getting: 552 sid:M20A1i00E2qfw2F01:Message rejected for spam or virus content -------------- EDIT: This has happened in Windows XP, with Outlook 2010 and AVG antivirus, as well as Windows 7 http://www.inmotionhosting.com/support/email/bounceback-errors/email-error-552 (fresh install), Outlook 2010, and no antivirus (yet). No matter if attachments are in email or not; It looks like sometimes if I try to re-send same message, but change the subject slightly (sometimes just addinga space) - it will go through. The error I'm getting is instant, in my inbox, making me think it does not reach https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/136986d0-4ff3-44aa-a545-af3a775386fe/outlook-error-552-message-rejected-for-spam-or-virus-content-no-virus-with-and-without?forum=outlook the ISP or SMTP server. Must be something internal, in Outlook. Any settings I can change to avoid this? Edited by Edgardo Sussmann Friday, January 13, 2012 3:15 PM Friday, January 13, 2012 2:47 PM Reply | Quote Answers 1 Sign in to vote Wow, I just got what I feel is a pretty good answer from a GoDaddy customer support person. Here is the recap: In 2003, the Can't Spam Act was implemented. Since then, large email hosting companies like GoDaddy have had to constantly balance the filters on their servers. If a certain email account gets flagged as spam, sometimes the entire server gets shut down until GoDaddy can either adjust the filters or weed out the problem customer who is spamming. This causes a lot of other emailers whose emails go through that same server to have an interruption in their service. Therefore, Godaddy (and other email hosting companies) are constantly walking a fine line. If they make the email filters too strict, the server overreacts and tr
reply codesSometimes your SMTP server may return a particular error message. The problem is that it will generally be very cryptic, like "550 Requested action not taken: mailbox unavailable" or "421 Try again later". What does these http://www.serversmtp.com/en/smtp-error numbers mean?First of all: not any reply code is an error. Sometimes it's just a https://support.google.com/postini/answer/138142?hl=en response containing a detail about the server or an answer to a command. Secondly: any code consist of three digits, and each conveys a particular information. The first one defines whether the server has accepted the command, fulfilled an action, run into a temporary issue, encountered an error etc; the second and the third one refine the description error message further, stating if there's been a syntactic problem, or a connection trouble etc.Unfortunately, different servers sometimes use these codes in a different way, making the whole thing even more complicated... Anyhow, the most critical series of error messages is the 5xx one, and especially the ones from 550 to 559. In particular, you will probably get a lot of 550 SMTP error codes – that is, a problem that concerns the recipient's 552 error message email address. Finally, remember that it's much easier to deal with these error codes if you choose to rely on a professional SMTP server that will help you solve any issue. turboSMTP, for instance, comes with a 24/7 customer support: you can try it free and forget once for all these issues. And here's a list of the main SMTP error or reply messages, with an explanation and a tip about what to do. CODEMEANINGHOW TO SOLVE IT / WHAT TO DO101The server is unable to connect.Try to change the server's name (maybe it was spelt incorrectly) or the connection port.111Connection refused or inability to open an SMTP stream. This error normally refers to a connection issue with the remote SMTP server, depending on firewalls or misspelled domains. Double-check all the configurations and in case ask your provider.211System status message or help reply. It comes with more information about the server.214A response to the HELP command. It contains information about your particular server, normally pointing to a FAQ page.220The server is ready. It's just a welcome message. Just read it and be happy that everything is working (so far)!221The server is closing its transmission channel. It can come with side messages like "Goodbye" or "Closing connection".The mailing session is going to end, which simply means that all messages have been processed.250Its typi

Issue: Sender getting the following error 552 Message too large - psmtp Possible Cause: Message limit is set to low for inbound Attachment Manager, by default the limit is set to 200MB, if a sender is sending a message that is above the limit size set in Attachment Manager the message will bounce with error 552 Message too large - psmtp Resolution: Change message limit size in Postini, via inbound attachment manager: http://www.google.com/support/enterprise/static/postini/docs/admin/en/admin_ee_cu/attach_edit.html Possible Cause: Message sent is actually larger when received by Postini than size when sent by sender. For example when Exchange sends an e-mail to another host via SMTP, the message size may change due to the encoding used to package it. This is doubly true for messages with attachments, since the only way to send e-mail attachments is to convert them from plain ASCII to MIME or UU-encode the message. Even if an attachment is less than the size limits proscribed by Exchange, it may not be accepted because its MIME-encoded or UU-encoded size is too big. This happens most often when administrators set limits for inbound SMTP mail. An incoming MIME-encoded e-mail with attachments can increase in size anywhere from 30% to 40%, depending on how many separate attachments, line breaks, MIME headers or other non-data elements are in the message. The exact size can vary enormously, especially since mail systems all behave a little differently when converting e-mail and attachments to MIME. The same problem exists in reverse, where messages sent from your domain will be constrained by message limit sizes on other hosts. Likewise, mail sent from your domain is going to expand anywhere from 30% to 40% in size when converted. A third-party program, such as UUDeview, can help you find out just how much larger a MIME or UU-encoded version of a given file will be. (Note that this tool does not calculate things like message size overhead, but it can still be helpful.) The exact maximum incoming and outgoing message size is going to be up to the e-mail administrator, but should be set with these caveats in mind. Resolution: Explain to users that when they send attachments, they need to be aware that messages
