Each time he boots his PC, he gets a pop-up Internet Explorer window with this message: "Cannot find 'File:///'. Make sure the path or internet address is correct." I feel you, Randy. Stuff like this can be seriously annoying. My guess is that you recently installed or uninstalled a program that Windows is looking for--but can't find--during startup. What you need is some kind of startup monitor that will show you everything that's trying to run during the boot process, so you can determine which Internet Explorer-related item is the offender--and then disable it. If you're reasonably tech-savvy, I recommend Autoruns, a free utility hosted on Microsoft's TechNet site. After running it, click the Logon tab and look for any entries that point to iexplore.exe. If you find one, clear its checkbox and re

The message Exiting PXE Boot ROM, when starting up a system, means that the system tried to load an Operating System from its network card, rather than from the hard drive. When this happens, it is needed to verify the boot order set in the Basic Input Output System (BIOS) setup pages. SYMPTOMS The message shows shortly after the Acer logo. The wording of the message is not literal. It can be different per model, depending on the installed network adapter. SOLUTION Restart the system. As soon as the first logo screen appears, immediately press the F2 key, or the DEL key if you have a desktop, to enter the BIOS. Use the arrow keys to navigate Boot or Advanced BIOS features. Refer to on screen instructions to set the first device to IDE0, Hard Disk or SATA0. Press the F10 key to save changes and restart the system. MORE INFORMATION If the message persists while the hard drive is set as first boot device, verify that the Operating System has been installed properly. Select models have the ability to have the operating system reinstalled from a hidden drive built into the computer. Power on your computer. When the Acer logo is displayed, press and hold the ALT key while pressing repeatedly the F10 key. Release the keys when a message displays that Windows is loading files. After the system recovery program has loaded follow the prompts to reinstall the operating system. DID THIS FIX THE PROBLEM?
