ERR2ERR3 Error for HP Pavillion Desktop Started by tdub4, June 19, 2010 9 posts in this topic tdub4 10 New Geek Registered 10 4 posts Posted June 19, 2010 · Report post I have an HP Pavillion desktop (3 years old) pc running Vista. Last night I installed Spyder3Express (monitor calibration hardware/software) and was required to reboot the machine. Once I rebooted, I get a black screen with a message in the top left corner that says: "ERR2ERR3 Boot Failure Insert System Disk". I have the Recovery Disks I created when I bought the PC, but when I insert those, my only option is to do a System Recovery...which I am trying to avoid because it has been some time since my last backup and I have a lot of pictures that I dont want to lose. I have run the diagnostics from PC Doctor but it claims all hardware passed and is most likely a software issue. I have checked the boot order (CD then HD), and tried to enter safe mode with F8 but it is not letting me do that during the boot (maybe it isnt supposed to?) Do I not have the option to do a "non destructive" system recovery (keeping my files and pictures in tact)? Any help would be appreciated.
 Bama19642 78 VIP Registered 78 3,984 posts Posted June 19, 2010 · Report post You can try Last Known Good Configurtion, but it probably won't work if Safe mode wouldn't. The only way to repair a Windows installation is with a Retail CD of the exact same OS. OEM CDs will not work and Recovery Discs won't either. You can download a Live CD OS that runs from the CD and use it to transfer your files. I think most people use Linux Puppy or Knoppix for that sort of thing. 0 Share th

I have an HP dv9500 notebook that I'm selling to in order to upgrade to another. Prior to yesterday it was functioning fine, but b/c I'm selling it I decided to reformat the PC to "new" & I used the HP Recovery CD which was apparently a very bad idea. The CD formatted the drive ok then a utility or subprogram called "FBI Gui" started installing additional software & drives which seemed to take forever. Finally when the desktop reappeared the FBI program seemed to hang & I noticed that my HD drive partition that it installed in was set to under 20 GB so I read that I should "extend" the drive by clicking on manage storage. Net out is that afterward my PC rebooted on it's own & now only displays the message, "Err2Err3 No Operating System Found" although I know that the system had installed to nearly the original state. Can someone please tell me how to sort this out? I am thinking that either the partitions are wrong or something is not being recognized when it begins the boot process. Reading on HP forums I did find others that had similar issues, but then tried terminating the "FBI GUI" process early, but not sure I know what to do when this occurs. Thanks for your help. I think it is the F11 key during pw ON. crjdriver, Apr 1, 2012 #2 Tazzman2 Thread Starter Joined: Apr 1, 2012 Messages: 6 Yes, I have tried rebooting and pressing F11 and it displays the Err2Err3 message. If I place the Recovery CD in then I will have to start all over reformatting & installing. Issue with that is that HP Forums report that the original (mine) Recovery CD & Partition were faulty and partitioned C Drive to only be 20 GB, instead of the actual partition. That is why I had tried to extend it. Think it's that FBI GUI software doing that!
