up vote 1 down vote favorite I've been notified that SFTP access is no longer working on an Amazon EC2 server running Ubuntu. I had done some work creating SFTP access for other users on this server. The limited user access is still working. However, root SFTP access from the "ubuntu" user for which we have a .pem key file, is no longer working. I am getting exit status 126 from the the exit code 126 debug output. FireFTP reports: Connected (version 2.0, client OpenSSH_5.9p1NaNDebian-5ubuntu1.3) Authentication (publickey) successful! Secsh channel 1 opened. Error message= uncaught exception: EOFError: "undefined" URL= Line Number= 0 I managed to allow SFTP access by adding the following to /etc/ssh/sshd_config: Match user ubuntu ForceCommand internal-sftp However this disables SSH access!! I also made sure that "PermitRootLogin yes" is set in sshd_config. I tried also making the ubuntu home folder owned by root:root but it seemed to make no difference.. I'm not sure what I may have inadvertantly changed to cause this error. WinSCP translates the numerical codes to a textual description for you, so you do not have http://serverfault.com/questions/607475/exit-code-126-from-sftp to remember them. The SFTP server should also provide a meaningful textual description of the error itself. WinSCP includes the server-side description in its error message, labeled "Error message from server". Such description can include more detailed information than WinSCP can possibly deduce from the numerical code. Code 4 (Failure) Codes List References Code 4 (Failure) Note that not https://winscp.net/eng/docs/sftp_codes all servers use all codes. Most SSH/SFTP servers, including the most commonly used OpenSSH, support only SFTP version 3 that defines only codes 0 to 8. Advertisements: These servers would generally use code 4 (Failure) for many errors for which there is a specific code defined in the later versions of SFTP protocol, such as: Renaming a file to a name of already existing file. Creating a directory that already exists. Moving a remote file to a different filesystem (HDD). Uploading a file to a full filesystem (HDD). Exceeding a user disk quota. In this case the server is required to provide meaningful description of the error itself (see above). Unfortunately, OpenSSH SFTP server uses always description "Failure". Is such case, there is unfortunately no way to tell a reason of the failure. Error classes ActionScript provides a number of predefined Error classes. But, you can also use the same Error classes in your own code. There are two main types of Error classes in ActionScript 3.0: ActionScript core Error classes and flash.error package Error classes. The flash.error package contains additional classes to aid ActionScript 3.0 application development and debugging. Core Error classes The core error classes include the Error, ArgumentError, EvalError, RangeError, ReferenceError, SecurityError, SyntaxError, TypeError, URIError, and VerifyError classes. Each of these classes are located in the top-level namespace. Class name Description Notes Error The Error class is for throwing exceptions, and is the base class for the other exception classes defined in ECMAScript: EvalError, RangeError, ReferenceError, SyntaxError, TypeError, and URIError. The Error class serves as the base class for all run-time errors, and is the recommended base class for any custom error classes. ArgumentError The ArgumentError class represents an error that occurs when the parameter values supplied during a function call do not match the parameters defined for that function. Some examples of argument errors include the following: Too few or too many arguments are supplied to a method. An argument was expected to be a member of an enumeration and was not. EvalError An EvalError exception is thrown if any parameters are passed to the Function class’s constructor or if user code calls the eval() function. In ActionScript 3.0, support for the eval() function has been removed and attempts to use the function result in an error. Earlier versions of Flash Player used the eval() function to access variables, properties, objects, or movie clips by name. RangeError A RangeError exception is thrown if a numeric value falls outside an acceptable range. For example, a RangeError is thrown by the Timer class if a delay was either negative or was not finite. A RangeError could also be thrown if you attempted to add a display object at an invalid depth. ReferenceError A ReferenceError exception is thrown when a reference to an undefined property is attempted on a sealed (nondynamic) object. Versions of the ActionScript compiler before ActionScript 3.0 did not throw an error when access was attempted to a property that was unde
